Because it's arguably not relevant to the position. While there is some legitimate debate as to what exactly "natural-born" means in the Constitution, it's generally accepted to mean "citizen at birth", in which case, it doesn't necessarily matter where you're born. If either of your parents are citizens when you're born, you automatically become an American citizen (unless you're a diplomat).
Even if the birthers were right, Obama would've been born in a foreign country to a foreign man and an American woman... just like Ted Cruz was. Yet only a handful of people ever made a peep about Cruz' eligibility. The whole thing was a ploy to paint Obama as a dangerous interloper to be feared, and it worked because he was a black Democrat with a non-Christian name.
