We're all works in progress. Even the people that seem good on the surface will have things in their lives that aren't pleasing to God. We don't get to be 100% perfect till we go to be with Jesus!

What's the deal with some Christians that seem so fake. Like holier-than-thou yet so judgmental and disingenuous. I'm sure we've all encountered this. It was more prevalent at some of the churches I went to than others.
Are you not doing the very thing you are complaining about?

I have learned that in general it is not Christians who have the hollier than thou mentality but it is usually people who claim with their mouths that they are Christians but work deads of the world, usually people who are too social.

People who are actual Christians in general treat others relative well.

as Christians, we are indeed called to Judge. We make judgement each day of our lives. Without specific examples of your issue with them, it is difficult to answer better.

As far as 'holier than though' I kindly ask you to explain, give examples. This can provide better answers to your questions.

I have been accused of these things myself . It was because the person making the claims against me, did not really understand Christianity. By definition, a Christian is a follower of Jesus Christ. The only way to follow Christ is through his Word, the Bible. There is also the Holy Spirit too but, the Bible is our instructions for life.
Blessings

An honest answer. We all do it already. It's only a matter of what measure we use to judge others.

Actuall we as Christians are not allowed to judge the world yet. We are allowed to judge other Chrisrians to keep the ranks clean but not the world.
One day the Saints will judge the world but that time is not yet.

It is ok to teach right from wrong though.

Yeah, in my experience...at least here in the south. Southern Baptist tend to be the worst at being back stabbers. They'll be friendly and all smiley to you in your face, but will **** you over in a heart beat.

My dad was from up north, and when he came down south to the good ol boy network, his co-workers didn't care for "Yankees" as they called him. His supervisor made him let a guy go because he was "born again". lol

I’ve known people who were not so much holier-than-thou, but were definitely more legalistic in their faith and seemed to care more about how things look than how things are. Which all came off as very fake, to me. They also did not tolerate differing preferences very well.
I chose not to be a part of this group :tonguewink:

My main problem with many Christians is how they tend to infuse politics with religion. I've been harmed by Christians who take more lessons from Donald Trump, Ronald Reagan, Ayn Rand, and Gordon Gecko than from Jesus.

Amazes me how so many Christians embrace men and women who endorse social Darwinist philosophy and most importantly hierarchy.. then again Christianity might be a religion for those who secretly yearn for being on top of the hierarchy the most. "The last shall be first and the first shall be last".. isn't hard to see why it was a religion that was embraced by slaves and those lowly in the social hierarchy. Or why a nation like Rome with only a few on top was totally overrun and eventually dominated by Christian teachings.

Probably all comes down to a religion of fear. Growing up being told that you need to "be good" or "do good" (and to a lesser extent get the right theology) or go to hell. So they think the only way to act is to either actively or passive-aggressively judge and threaten others. And all the while they have to convince themselves that they are in the right and speaking on behalf of God, thus meeting what they believe to be God's definition of holy (that's where the seeming self-righteous part you see in them comes in), when they act this way. Oh sure they'll be certain to pay the lip service all the while during their judgment and threats that they too are sinners and deserved death, but the grace and compassion ends there. And actually? Many of these kinds of Christians aren't even aware that they are acting this way. It's probably sub-conscious for the most part. Unfortunately a lot of it may be due to just how you were brought up.

Well, let's be fair to conservatives. I doubt it's a good idea for Christians to take more lessons from a lot of Democrat figures than they do Jesus, either. ^_^

with the religious right than I did with the religious left so far in life.

Hah. I didn't even know there was such a thing as the Religious Left. ^_^ Although, perhaps that would be the appropriate term to call liberals when they dredge up their own brand of self-righteousness by claiming that - probably solely on account of His teachings concerning the poor and destitute - "Jesus would have been a (read: political) liberal".

And I'm like "noooo ... I doubt He would have cared much for either side."

Thank you!
It’s a difficult subject to discuss, because we don’t want to fall into the very behavior we are expressing frustration with. I think you made some good points.
