I do have an understanding. it is not "figure out the rubic's cube of the future".

Also "the time is at hand." You realize this was written in the 2nd half of the 1st century AD, don't you?

People just get real scatterbrained and flighty when it comes to saying they have something that explains the future.

I disagree that the "kings of the east" are villains.

This passage relates to a very important event in ancient history...
an event critical to ancient Israelites... when God's anointed king
from the east, Cyrus, conquered Babylon via drying up the Euphrates
river at Babylon to secretly invade the city of Babylon in a surprise attack.
This was the event that ended the 70 years of Babylonian captivity.

Ancient Greek historians also wrote about this event... so it would
have been well-known to the people of Christ's day both from Biblical
and secular history.

Rev 16 uses this Cyrus conquering Babylon analogy because it directly
relates to Rev use of Babylon as the end time evil empire analogy.

(Rev 1:3) Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
At the very least, we should try to understand.
:)
"BLESSED is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy .... "
Blessed, by Yahweh, pretty good, eh ?

Later may come the understanding, without effort, as Yahweh grants it (easy by His Spirit , like His Good Pleasure to Reveal His Understanding to little children, and hide it from the eduated(sic) ones)

Ironic that God uses both heroes and villains to bring about His perfect will. God used villains like the kings of Assyria and Babylon to punish sinful Israelites and at the same time to create a vast diaspora of all 12 tribes of Israel to whom Jesus sent His disciples [James 1:1.] God also uses Pharaoh and Gog to pave the way for His divine revelation and intervention [Exodus 9:16, Romans 9:17, Ezekiel 38:16, Ezekiel 39:6-7.] The divine irony is.. God used Pharaoh to propel Israel towards their Promise Land and God will use Gog to propel the "camp of the saints" [Revelation 20:7-9] towards New Jerusalem.
