Rush Limbaugh supports amnesty provided immigrants can’t vote for up to 25 years

“I’ll make you a deal right here,” Limbaugh said on the program. “I would be willing, right here, to support an effort to grant permanent citizenship to whatever number of illegal immigrants there are in the country, tomorrow, if you will make as part of the deal they can’t vote for 15 to 25 years. And if they will agree to that, I’ll grant them amnesty.”

Nice of Rush to admit openly that the only reason he opposes immigration is on strict partisan political grounds.
If President Trump were to offer the deal, Democrat leaders would all be against it. And that would show that they want amnesty only because they see the people as potential Democrat votes. That's the point.

We know that's the point. Kentonio's point was that, by making his offer, Limbaugh is guilty of exactly the same sort of partisan cynicism with which the Democrats are being charged.

Action begets Re-action.

It's an inviolable law.

You realize Rush is the one making the action here right?

Please provide me with the reasoning behind accepting immigrants as citizens but then deciding that they deserve taxation without representation for a quarter of a century.

Try and do it without having to fall back on 'They might vote Democrat'.

I thought that was a pretty bizarre deal. I guess his point is that if they did this, Democrats wouldn't accept it because they don't actually care about illegals, just votes?
Correct.

Rush has stated this deal previously ... and about how Democrats would never accept it ... just as Democrats have refused to get involved in any sort of deal with Trump, regardless of how good.

You realize Rush is responding to the incessant cries for amnesty, right?

He’s not an elected politician, he’s a loudmouth with a microphone. He has about as much need to ‘respond’ as you or I do. He’s setting up a stupid talking point that means nothing so he can play the latest round of ‘The Dems don’t really care either!’.

It’s vacuous right wing talking head nonsense.

Rush's proposal is a good one. Democrats are counting on the immigrant votes though.

Rush's proposal would mean telling people they can be citizens but only second class citizens, with no form of representation in the society where they live, work and pay taxes.

There's no rational reason for imposing this second class status of course, except that one political party fears their policies would scare those new voters into voting for the other party.

A serious political organization might take a second's pause at this point, look in the mirror and ask themselves 'Why wouldn't a newly arrived citizen, with clear asperations to improve their economic situation and a likely great work ethic want to vote for us? What is it about our vision of America that we don't think would appeal to them?'. Of course its much easier to just throw around stupid suggestions like 'They can come, but they can't vote!'.

Psst ... they already have second class status ... as illegals.

Would you rather deport them ... or allow them to vote in 25 years? What does your country do?

What you’re doing now is taking up his rather stupid suggestion as if it’s the logical baseline position. It’s a trick the GOP use quite regularly, it’s sad that it’s becoming popular with the public too.

I ask you again, what single logical reason is there for granting some people citizenship but denying them the right to vote? How does creating a second class tier of citizen benefit America?

You’re supporting this idea pretty strongly, so it should be an easy enough question to answer, surely?

Rush Limbaugh was calling the Liberals' bluff there. He knows that their #1 priority with these "Dreamers" is getting them on the voter rolls, not keeping them from being deported.

Of course the Democrats don't want to admit to their real interest with the Dreamers, so Limbaugh was putting it out in the open.

Taxation without Representation isn't an issue one way or the other in this.
