What are some of the risks or dangers in posting pictures or video online? Any other related risks would also be helpful. Thank you. Your rather trusting and naive fellow, RB.

Posting pictures or videos on CF could be dangerous while walking on the street.

There is a news some time ago, a person was texting while walking and died when he or she walked head-on into a tree.

It sounded a bit crazy and somewhat funny but it actually happened! Tragic outcome though.

Personally, I don't worry having stalkers or creeps after posting my full picture online, ha! But I have made many quite controversial threads in CF. I worry that someone who knows me personally is in CF and report my threads and posts to my parents, lol!

No danger to old fat guys like me; I've yet to have a female stalker...

I can imagine some of the younger and attractive females here attracting unwanted attention, which is a shame. I have a hard time imagining how someone can fixate on a person to the point of stalking.

I work with a couple of women I've dated, and after the relationship ended, I don't check on their activities around the campus. And it's my job to track people. I handle all sorts of requests from HR to see what folks are up to while at work via badge scans and cameras. To use that ability to see what an ex is up to is unethical and creepy. To me at least...

Lol, that's true.

It's probably much better not post pictures or at least obscure your picture like in my avatar.

I don't stalk, I target.

But only if you give me a reason.

I'm sort of half joking. I did make it my business to hunt down a troll on YouTube a few years ago. In the end, someone else did it for me.

It’s always nice to see the face behind the username, you are all very lovely people. However, I personally wouldn’t post my picture on a forum such as this out of principle. I wouldn’t have any problems sharing photos privately with pen pals and so on, but in these days I think it’s a good idea to be cautious when it comes to what we do publicly.

In the worst case scenario, a stalker could manage to find your identity based on a photo you posted here. Nowadays people often use multiple social media services, and if you for instance cross posted a photo here and on instagram or twitter, a reverse image search could easily reveal your identity.

As a lot of people have said, there are a lot of freaks out there who will take pictures or videos and just use them for their own sickness.

You have to be more wary of course on CF or other open areas than you do on Facebook I believe because you can have privacy settings on FB. You allow who sees your photos and videos, you add people as your friends and you can decide who gets to see your stuff and who doesn't. Some people don't think posting is any different on here as it is on FB or somewhere but it really is. You open yourself up to a lot of things.

Now mind you, you're basically not safe posting your stuff anywhere on the internet, you're basically giving your rights up when you post anything, but some places are "safer" than others. But use common sense when you post things about yourself (when you go on vacation, when you leave your house, posting pictures, videos, things near your home, your home in general, etc). Don't just be like "Oh, well no one would ever want to.." no trust me, there's a freak for every type of person out there. lol

Anyone can go on Google Images and do a reverse image search. If you've posted the image anywhere else, say, Facebook, it'll pop right up.

Posting a picture puts it in the public domain and if anyone copies that picture it is out their forever. You can delete the original but that doesn't delete the copies. This is where they get pictures to put in ads like dating websites. I know a very decent but beautiful lady who found one of her pictures, well, a co-worker found one of her pictures on a inappropriate content site. It traumatized her. Because of that, she wouldn't even let her husband post their wedding picture online in a very private group.

Also, pictures and posts that can be tied back to you (a photo is a pretty positive identification marker) can be used against you in school and job applications...or even on the job when you say or post things that don't exhibit professionalism or character....such as photos showing you doing immature behaviors or behavior such as drinking. There was a nursing student who was dismissed from nursing school for posting a picture of her holding a placenta (no momma or baby in the pic)...well, that violates HIPAA privacy laws since it was not her placenta to post.

One of the risks I have found, specifically on CF for some particular reason, is people making remarks about your picture. They can be kind but some can also be unnecessarily. You post at your own risk.

This is so true. I kept having someone sending me anonymous blessings just to tell me (anonymously) that my nose was really big in up close pictures, andddd then I had a few occasions where I got told I had major sun spots going on (freckles all over my nose and cheeks). Fun times. :satisfied:

I think you're freaking adorable! ^_^ People tell me to smile more. I think it can come off as a little rude and inconsiderate, considering that is the most I have been able to smile and they don't know what is going on in my life.

Awww  :satisfied: I think that's kind of silly to tell someone to smile more. It's like dude, it's my picture I shall look how I wanna look, k? :p But it really is like that, you decided to post a picture, it should be up to you how you look in it, not someone else. And besides... not everyone is "smilers" and that's okay!

Half the time I slightly smile, the other half I smile big. Sometimes I just don't want to smile; I am not doing it to please other people. I will always smile big if I am taking a picture with someone but if it is just a selfie? Chances are I won't.
