The Bible isn't going to speak to every specific problem that people ask about here. There are principles in the Bible that you can be pointed to and God also gives you just sense to know what His character is like. I was not raised in a Christian home, but since becoming a Christian I read the Bible to know what God is like, to know how I should be living, and what God wants me to be doing in a general manner. If someone gives me advice that is against God and His principles; I can discern that because I know what God is like through his word. There is not always a Bible verse for every problem someone will encounter. Also, if someone is asking for advice or justification for something that is not God honoring; then I don't think a gentle rebuke is out of line. After reading some of the advice the OP gives; much of it is her opinion and not straight from the Bible either so I don't understand why she is demanding that of others.

I think maybe just be careful to test things cos ive seen some really awful advice and opinions on here thats just not christian, and if followed actually would cause that person to stumble.

If I notice stuff like that, Im going to report it from now on. This is serious. Our brothers and sisters are precious to God. In the news recently theyve started highlighting how damaging the effects of cyberbullying can be. I for one am not going to tolerate it.
A bruised reed He will not break.

Exactly. The people who think they know it all about what the Bible has to say are the last ones I would take any advice from. Especially the younger adults who really have not experienced life yet and still live with mommy and daddy. Not all advice has to be biblical. It can be given and shared because that person has been through the same thing and has the experience to give out that advice.
Someone else was right when they said a lot of it is just plain common sense. God gave us a brain and some people just need to learn how to use it.
Yes common sense comes into it. I know one person who can't believe his bad luck and wonders if God is punishing him. He had a car accident recently and has been fined a few times recently for driving an unregistered car and also parking fine where he said he had his car parked there for over a week. Well with regards to the fines he did the wrong thing. The car accident he did turn from the wrong lane although he said he checked it was clear. Last second decision to turn. Common sense would have stopped all those things.
How does one respond? Clearly they want a compassionate ear but I find it hard to do so when common sense could have avoided those situations.

As with any online community, this forum is filled with people of all levels of qualification to offer advice - which is one of the reasons that coming to an online community for advice is a bit ridiculous. Who knows whether the person offering advice has any qualifications, whatsoever, to offer up said advice. That's one of the reasons that I often drop in a brief "resume" when offering advice.

I've seen advice offered on this forum, and on other forums, that is outright wrong and dangerous. Rather than "reporting" such advice, I try to offer up factual information based on my areas of expertise to contradict such advice. Often, I will recommend that the person seeking advice consult a professional in the "real world."

Unfortunately, people often frequent forums to seek enablers who will tell them that everything will be OK, just keep on doing what you're doing, don't change a thing. Many times, individuals like this are offended when someone speaks up and points out their sin ... or that they might be the source of their problems rather than everyone else in the world.

Some of the advice that I offer comes from the Bible. Some of my advice comes from practical experience. Some of my advice comes from specific training or other qualifications. As others have said, the Bible doesn't have a specific answer for every single question.

This is an excellent post. Too many people with no experience in what they are giving advice on. They believe that throwing in a few bible verses will help. Guess what? For those that REALLY need help that most often does not work. If people think they are qualified to give advice because they are arrogant enough to believe they have the bible all figured out, they are deluding themselves AND the ones they are giving advice to.

Reminds me of one of the things that really annoys me. People quote a bible verse and say nothing else at all. There is often no connection between the verse and the situation. If you ask they just say I let scripture speak.

It's dangerous to give wrong biblical advice, I read lots of stuff online (which by the way I need to stop doing)) that doesn't make sense or add up..and some truth is far stretched...if you don't know anything..don't say nothing..

The problem I see here is that some think they know everything and are giving advice on anything. As if they feel they have a calling from God to solve everyones problems because they think they know how to divide the word correctly.
