This is a very loaded question/topic, but I will do the best to sum up my views. Yes, the Catholic Church is indeed what Christ intended. Christ commissioned the apostles to spread his message across the world, he granted them authority to be his voice on earth (Mark 16, Matthew 28, Matthew 18:18). The apostles used their authority to teach people the good news of the lord, and to establish an earthly church, the Catholic Church. The epistles of the Holy Bible attest to the fact that an earthly episcopacy was indeed established by the apostle; it consisted of bishops, deacons and presbyters. It is very close to the system that we still employ today.
So yes, the Catholic Church is what Christ intended...but truthfully, we have fallen short of what we should be. Much corruption has entered the church over the years, and in many ways The Church has lost track of its mission. The mission of the Church should be to educate people about the orthodox Christian faith, and to employ them to live their lives in Christ. All across the world, and especially in the West, many children learn more about Catholic culture then they do about faith. That is a problem.
Perhaps a bigger problem is that the church is not unified. Christ never intended for his apostles to treat one an other as enemies, he intended them to work together. Today, Christians prey on one another as though they are a bands of wolves. The warning stated in Acts 20:29 has come true, the Catholic Church is tied up and robbers plunder sheep from our house (Mark 3:27). We need to focus on faith, and forget about politics...and we need to show the world that we are the universal church, by reuniting with all other orthodox Christians. True unity will lead to the optimal version of the Catholic Church. When we are united, secular and unorthodox forces will not be able to prevail against the Church founded by Jesus Christ.
