Certainly we would have an expectation of light involving the appearance of God.

We are taught to be beyond cautious, even to the point of skepticism, in the Orthodox Church, regarding visions of Christ, angels, saints, etc. Not because we don't believe in them, but because it can be a very common tactic of the enemy to try to impersonate a holy being.

It is not my place to pass judgement on your experience. But caution is ALWAYS wise. If it were me, I would pay very, very, VERY close attention to any feelings you may begin to develop as a result of this experience. Any hint of thinking that you are especially favored, or holy, or temptation to pride of any kind is a dangerous sign. Remember that you are talking about the King of Kings, the Almighty, the Creator of all things - and think of how you yourself ought to feel in His Presence.

And remember that God indeed loves you and desires your salvation. Satan's fall was occasioned through pride. God would not give you something that leads you into such a dangerous soul-killing sin. Please, I'm NOT saying that you are prideful. Just giving a bit of advice from a Traditional standpoint, since that's where you posted. :)

Thank God you recovered - and may God be with you and guide you. :)

What's the work you are expected to do?

The work of God is to believe in Jesus Christ; and what did Jesus Christ teach? Love God and love your neighbor. So I'm certain that is the work Jesus Christ intends me to do.

I feel no pride about my experience at all as far as I can tell. Actually coming face to face with the creator of the universe is a very humbling experience, after all he was the light and not me. Mainly, I feel blessed and thankful that God had grace on me a poor miserable sinner.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I attended a memorial today of a dear friend whose son was killed recently.

The pastor's Benediction was to live your life with kindness and love.
Reading your experience and how Christ spoke about love and kindness to our neighbors I feel renewed strength in my present journey.

Thank you.

Honestly, I figured that what the scriptures had to say would be more important than anything I would have to say.

In March I was taken to the emergency room in Phoenix. My condition was exertional rhabdomyolysis. All my muscles broke down to the point that I looked like an Ethiopian and I shriveled up and died. They marked my feet for the morgue and closed the curtain and left me for dead. That night I saw a bright light beyond comprehension and we had a conversation. I asked, "Who are you?" and he replied, "You know who I am my name is Jesus Christ". He then proceeded to say, "You need to go back you have more work to do." That was all he said. Then I awoke the next morning still alive. When I fell asleep I couldn't even stand any longer. I had lost all my strength. Either I died that night or I was near death. Either way I saw Jesus Christ and he was pure light brighter then the brightness of the sun. A blinding bright light so bright that if you saw it with the human eye you wouldn't even be able to stare at it.

God Bless You All.
In God's Grace,
GracetotheHumble

When nearing death while the brain is being starved of oxygen, it can produce sensations. A common sensation is of a bright light. This is why people near death frequently talk about seeing a light at the end of a tunnel. Also, the brain can produce other strange sensations and hallucinations. As a Christian or at least as someone raised in a predominantly Christian culture chances are your brain produced a sensation of encountering Jesus (you are psychologically conditioned). In other cultures and other religions people frequently encounter experiences of gods and visions relevant to them. Or people may encounter loved ones--parents or grandparents or long dead spouses.

As Christians we shouldn't take these sorts of experiences too seriously, it can be seriously destructive to faith. While not ever experience can be destructive to faith, it can often be the case where an experience is considered more valid than the Scriptures and the historic teaching of the Church--and that is destructive to faith.

I don't see anything about his experience that contradicts either one.

For me my experience has served as a milestone and anchor in my 'walk' with Christ. Sort of a 'road' to 'emmaus' effect. Where being down cast and possibly even heading in the wrong direction I know the Lord is very tangible and aware of our specific 'place' in life. Weather that be physical or spiritual. And I believe that was the purpose of the encounter.

Touchy-feely without logic has absolutely no value. Emotions don't dictate truth. Experiences vary, and often contradict, and thus are unreliable in and of themselves.

It takes actual real discernment, done collectively with the Church, to validate a real vision. Christianity, or at least historic, traditional, Biblical Christianity, has always been like this, and it doesn't ignore what rational discoveries have revealed. We don't get to ignore science or psychology or psychiatry; they must be embraced or else a belief is not valid and is void.

A real vision is rare and has no other rational explination. Unless that is done, Christianity demands skepticism.

What you say about seeing light has been commented on by a number of scientists and researchers, but there are many facts involved with some reported NDE's which HAVE NOT been explained and appear to be impossible to attribute to the shutting down of the brain. For that reason, we ought to be cautious about summarily dismissing all such reports.

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Luke 12:35
Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;

John 1:4-9

That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

John 3:19-21
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 2 Peter 1:19
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

1 John 2:8-10
Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth. GttH, have you seen any of the NDEs ('near death experiences') on YouTube. If you haven't, you should. You will fnd them very reassuring.

Until recent years, anyone who had such an experience and talked about only met with incredulity even from their own family, so it's wonderful to be able to watch these video-clips today.

Hi,

Cool. Your responses are totally consistent with seeing Jesus. Jesus's PJ's saw Jesus in this way. The PJ's of Jesus is indeed Peter, James and John.

Is not what they saw, like yours? And are you not led to a greater understanding of Jesus? How can anyone suggest, the opposite? How can they say to you, that like Jesus healing a person, it is a demon in Jesus rather than an abilitiy because of Jesus being God? How?

I have heard in a book of one other, like you. I see no differences, and also he had the same problems you are experiencing. Belief by others. After a while he said he only talked when the idea was met with no resistance, or flowed was his words.

Now my experiences with seeing the Light, were every bit consisitent with yours. I had seen the light twice. The second one counts as it was Jesus Christ alone that time, and not The Thee of Them.

Yes, all else was dark compared to Those Three. My eyes were not hurt. That surprises me now, yet They were much much brighter than the sun. The next day, when I encountered Jesus interiorly, it was the same in brightness. All compared to Him, is dark.

I am sorry others seem to think you are decieved here. I am. I say you are so not decieved, that you now know more about Jesus and God than you did before that episode.

LOVE,
...Mary., .... .

Wow, what a fantastic testimony:D I have met Jesus only once and I have stood in the presence of father only twice the first time he wanted to show me something the second well he gave me some fatherly advice I wish I would have listened to him.

But the enemy has tried to pretend to be Jesus twice to me but I know the difference

The brain when losing oxygen has all nerves firing at once and this appears to be light. Its a physical condition.
Our senses cannot see heaven especially with our eyes closed.
People want to believe they are like prophets with visions but Jesus said he gave SOME apostles and SOME prophets and SOME teachers.
yet everyone at near death sees light and their past and all things they did, it is the brain starving for oxygen.

the /Bible clearly states when we die we go to sleep.
Lazarus come OUT not down.
David is not yet arisen to the heavens but lays in his grave

most of our false theology was [[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] on

Act_2:29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
Act_2:34 For David is not ascended into the heavens:

Now if you are a christian and you believe the bible to be the word of God, you need to believe the bible and not the dark traditions of paganism that taught the soul flies off to heaven.

People say they believe the bible, but when they read it they dont really believe it if it doesnt say what they want it to say, they just ignore god and keep right on with man's traditions.

so we should repent, and understand when people die they go to the grave which is called sheol, grave.
that is the word of god.
