Can apples NOT be a fruit

They can be plastic, 3d renderings, metal, mashed potatoes, among other things.

Apples can be computers.

Apples can be whatever they want to be if they work hard and believe in themselves!

They could probably be genetically modified so that they are no longer a fruit.

It's my understanding that "fruit" and "vegetable" are culinary terms, not really scientific terms. The official State vegetable of Oklahoma is watermelon.

Watermelons that have been genetically modified so that they are seedless: are they still a fruit?

I thought that part of a plant is a fruit because it contains seeds for reproduction. If there are no seeds, is it no longer a fruit?

I mean, if it wants to be a vegetable, I won't judge.

Some want to be oranges, while others want to be apples and even watermelons. And some may just want to identify as an "apple" without the fruit part.

A food's sexuality is something that it's born with...so if an apple feels fruity, it probably is.

If a tomato can be a fruity vegetable, why should this same right not be given to apples.

The platypus is a birdy mammal kind of thing. You say mammal. I say bird. Shouldn't the platypus decide how she identifies herself?

They can be what they want, they just shouldn't flaunt it. Those apple pride parades are soooo over-the-top.

I don't understand the point of your thread and the apparent gripe you're expressing.


The only instance I can think where such uses of apples and fruits may be invoked in philosophical debates is when basic deductive logic, specifically with respect to validity, is being communicated to others who may perhaps be committing logical blunders. This is good so as to understand contrapositives, which are logically valid, and contrast them with incorrect negations and incorrect reversals (i.e., converse errors), with are invalid.

Observe:
Now, this may seem uselessly academic, but it is quite useful in communicating a fallacy committed. It is easy to see when these simple variables are replaced with emotionally-charged ones in topics such as ethics and religion.
It isn't rare to come across similar arguments like those on these forums.
