Obnoxiously thick and wavy. Brushing it while damp will straighten it, but leaves it full of static. I'm forever growing it long and then cutting it all off, always trying to find something comfortable that also feels pretty, but I've yet to find a perfect style for myself. Had it long and wavy (never brushed, just put curling mousse in after a shower) for a long time. Then after my wedding, I hacked it off into a short bob. Problem is, it still wants to wave, and I wind up with random fiips and bumps and basically look a stupid mess. So I'm growing it out again, desperate to just harness it into a ponytail and get it out of my way. Then in a year or two I'll probably get sick of it again and hack it off. This cycle has been repeating my entire life lol.

This post was summer 2012 ^^^ I grew it out until August 2013 then cut it into a bob again. Let it grow for about 3 months, then cut it into a shorter bob lol. Right now it's a long pixie cut. The woman who did it really knew what she was doing, because I barely have to touch it to get it to lay relatively smooth. BUT it still wants to "bump" up around my ears (like the shape of a bell)... sigh... now I'm wishing I'd just kept it and let it grow to ponytail-harnessing length. But then I'd get sick of it and want to chop it again. I don't think I'll ever like my hair :( All I want is STRAIGHT, FLAT, SMOOTH hair.. but then, I think most of us want that, and never get it lol.

Still trying to grow this mess back out. I was really happy with it last Nov-Dec, but then I went to get it "trimmed" and this young girl who wouldn't stop yapping (and I suspect wasn't paying attention) completely butchered the back of my head. I have very thick, wavy hair with "flippy" ends, and she went and put two very distinct, senseless layers into my hair. So the bottom layer curls under, and the top layer flips up, and my head looked like a whole bunch of stupid. She was supposed to simply trim it, and maintain the layering that was already there, not create these two bizarre layers that work against each other! Anyway. So I suffered with it for a week or two then went back again to try and get it "fixed". The woman did what she could with it, and now it's been another month or two and I'm just waiting for it to grow, grow, grow. The bottom, sides, and back are still flipping and curling in random, stupid directions, and I fight with it every morning to try and look reasonably non-dumb. As usual, as soon as I have it short, I wish it were long again, so I could just lasso it into a ponytail and ignore it.

Sigh.

I hear ya about the hair frustrations. I haven't really found a look that I think looks good on my hair yet. I too am forever letting it grow then getting sick of it and chopping it to a bob which I then think looks silly so I let it grow again.

I have very fine wispy hair and its on the thinner side. I wish I had more hair as mine just goes flat and static-y all the time (unless its humid summer). I get frustrated with it so end up putting it in a pony tail all the time, but then I think that doesn't look right either. Stupid hair! :D

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who does the "grow it and chop it" cycle! I could weep with relief :D

Sometimes I wonder, what do you DO with thick, wavy hair? I mean REALLY thick and REALLY wavy. It's not the luxurious Hollywood look that people seem to think. It's hot, heavy, and stubborn. It's like a monster living on my head lol. It's always getting in my face and smothering me in my sleep. Ponytails are sometimes 24/7 just to cope. Cut it short and it's curling and flipping in random directions. Grow it long and it's hot and oppressive and feels like a carpet on your scalp (awful in the summertime). Dare to layer it, and you're just asking for flippy ends that refuse to match each other!

Woe is me!

Lol! It seems we have similar problems but with different hair types. I always thought how great it must be to have nice thick hair, but like you say it sounds like it comes with its own challenges. I never know quite what to do with mine either! If we can with our new bodies that we will get, I will request a different hair type! :D

It's kind of in a long, messy bob right now, as I'm still trying to grow it out. Looks something like this (minus the side-part and beautiful face lol).
