I need your advice of overcoming lust and masturbation. There is a root cause of why I have crushes in other men. I confess that I know nothing about being in a relationship, plus I have low self-esteem. I had this problem ever since I was young. I am 39 now and I want to overcome these issues. I need your advice. Would anything other than prayer help?

Practically speaking, you could avoid the things that would cause you to be tempted to commit lust.

If you are comfortable would you mind telling what triggers you to touch? Is their inappropriate content or other sexual images involved are you just overwhelmed with sexual tension?

I have a lot of experience with this particular issue and if your not totally comfortable telling me all the details that's okay. I understand this issue quite well your not the only one who's had to deal with it.

I try to ignore guys and focus on God. I don't know how much that helps in your situation, but it helps me.

Also, I'm most likely to have lust issues at night, when I'm alone. If you're that way, try dedicating the time between when you lie down in bed and when you fall asleep to God. Pray (or read/quote the Bible) from when you lie down until you fall asleep. Sometimes targeting a problem time or situation helps with temptation.

God bless you,
Grace

"I need your advice of overcoming lust and masturbation."

I don't think you have that big a problem. Masturbation is not a sin,and if you can learn to desire without lusting your problem is solved.

Now,relating to men it's like the bicycle thing--you have to just jump on and learn. Go easy in friendship and see if it's worth it all to ease into a relationship. Put some work into it:it won't just drop in your lap.

Fasting weekly for 24 hours, along with prayer, would, I believe, make a turning point.

Now, fasting is hard on the adrenals so you don't want to overdo it. I don't know the condition of your health. If you are very healthy a 24 hour water fast would be great. You might even want to build up your "fasting muscles" so to speak for that over a few weeks. If you have health issues then try veggie juice fasting for 24 hours. If you have serious health issues, maybe do a kind of Daniel fast. Per my understanding that means no meats, no treats no anointing oils (perfumes in our culture) for awhile.

Don't over do it, please.

Praying for wisdom on how to fast and for your freedom.

Masturbation isn't a problem unless the person involved is uneasy with it. Then yes, it is a problem for THEM. She's also said she struggles with lust and low self-esteem, so this isn't just a healthy, functional woman with occasional urges. This is serious.

Being almost 40 and never having been in a relationship AND having what seems to be an unhealthy addiction to masturbation (if you feel bad about doing it, but can't stop, that qualifies)... I would suggest seeking a professional counselor. You say there are "root causes" for some of the things you're dealing with, but don't say what they are, and you don't have to. But I do think you need help with this, if you aren't already seeking it.

Yeah, get up and do something else when the urge hits ya. Also, is there any way you would feel confident to look for a possible boyfriend? There are lots of dating sites, and many churches have singles' groups. You deserve a husband, so don't be afraid of trying to find one. God bless you.

Having a relationship with God will boost your self-esteem
and help you learn how to relate well with people.
If one of your desires is to have a relationship with God, then I suggest you need to accept the fact that masturbation is a sin (Lust of the flesh)and God is against it.
Two spiritual exercises that can help you deal with your addiction to masturbation is Prayer and Fasting.
- If you are into inappropriate content, destroy all your inappropriate content materials; Magazines, Films, Sex toys, e.t.c.
- Pay more attention to what you watch on TV and sites you visit on the internet (Avoid exposing yourself to information with sexual contents).
- Involve yourself in church service.
- Make Godly friends if you can.
- Join a group that helps people with sexual struggles. and addictions.
Hope this helps, God bless.
