yugioh more than just a card game?

Well, your friend is right about one thing. Yugioh is more than just a card game... It is also a manga and anime. lol! Yu-Gi-Oh! started out originally as a manga. The manga later spawned an anime, a trading card game, and video games. What your friend says is ridiculous. Yugioh is merely the work of fiction created by a brilliant author. If the manga and spin offs (aka, trading card game, anime, etc) appear "satanic" in any way, it is because Yugioh is a work of fiction from Japan, and Christianity is a minority religion in Japan. The main religions in Japan are Shinto and Buddhism; therefore, those are the main religious elements in Yugioh... as well as religion elements from Egypt since this is where the Pharoah Atem and other characters in Yugioh are from.

my friend is obssessed with yugioh cards and he told me that hundreds maybe thousands of years ago they would battle with real monsters and summon them and the loser lost his soul and that the dark magician is cursed with a spell and that when the card game came out some guy found a piece of an eye and saw the past and saw the games being played centuries ago. that to me is completely rubbish and had me thinking it was definately more than just a card game, that friend also has religious arguments and sometimes blashempizes the bible (my other friend told me he did im not sure) what do you think is yugioh satanic in anyway?

Um, it's called a franchise plot. It isn't satanic.

I think your friend needs to learn the difference between fiction and reality.

That said, there are some kinda creepy things going on in the show, especially the first season. I can imagine them being discomforting for some.

Which first season are you talking about? I only ask this because the real first season never aired in the United States, only Japan and perhaps other countries, but not the USA. It was considered too "racey" for children in the USA so they never translated it. What is called the first season in the United States is actually the second season in Japan. If you watched the series Yu-Gi-Oh! online subbed, then you may be thinking of Japan's first season (which is referred to by many as "season zero" in the USA since it never aired here).

I'm curious if you are talking about season zero or the first season aired in the USA, cause if you are talking about season zero then I can understand why you think it is a little creepy. There is no way something like that would ever air in the USA for kids. If you mean the first season aired in the USA, then I'm not sure what is creepy about it. Personally, I dislike season zero, but not because it is creepy... they just butchered the personalities of the main characters. Anyone who has both read the manga and watched season zero knows what I am talking about.

The real first season is awesome. It has Yami playing Shadow Games and full-on killing people. His first act on the completion of the Millenium Puzzle is to challenge the school bully, and when the bully loses, cracks his brain like an eggshell. He sets another guy on fire.

In the English 4Kids series, they babble on about friendship and stuff, in the Japanese first season, Yami puts people in hospital psychiatric wards. :)

Yeah, that is pretty awesome. The manga is my favorite though, especially the very beginning of the manga when Yami is playing shadow games and driving people insane. That was the best part out of the entire series. I only dislike season zero cause of what they did to Honda and Jonouchi's character personalities... plus they had that really annoying girl character, Miho, who only had a minor role in the manga but became a main character in season zero. I kept wishing Yami would hospitalize her. That would've been awesome! But Yami was more awesome in season zero. ;)

Yami in the very beginning equals awesome. Before they cheese-balled him with the "heart of the cards" and loving friends nonsense. If that Yami had come up with half the issues he'd had to deal with in subsequent seasons of the anime, he would have just cackled hysterically and banished the people in his way to the outer darkness of the Shadow Realm. :)

The "real first season" (series 0, or whatever you want to call it) was a different series entierly. Based on the first of the manga, but produced by an entirely different company with different goals. Which is why it was never aired on American TV, the company didn't sell rights (and no one asked them to, because it wouldn't effectively make the US company money, or wasn't popular enough, or whatever) to release it here.

The second series was pretty much based on merchandizing, while the first series was not.

If you ever read the manga, it's completely different from the American version of the anime. I can't comment on the Japanese version, as I've never seen it. The American version of the anime was a little wierd and parts of it I found creepy, but nothing that was any worse than just about every other anime.
