can't get financing from the bank, can't even qualify for a credit card. And I need a car, badly. I really need this roommate thing to work out somehow, and I really need a miracle something like she got.

Praying for provisions for you. :prayer:

Really hope Taylor Swift doesn't drift the way of Miley Cyrus.
Did something happen to make you think she is?

I kind of like Taylor Swift. My 11yo son bought her album in MP3 format and I downloaded it. *blush* I listen to it quite often.

No, Taylor hasn't done anything - but i didn't think Miley would go the way she has either. Taylor is a great songwriter, and a creative performance genius. Girls look up to her and so far she has tried intentionally to be a positive role model. It's nice that there is a secular artist that I so far haven't had to worry about. DD and I saw Taylor's concert last month, and then I read another Miley spiralling down story. Just made me hope Taylor won't disappoint DD (and me). At 21, Taylor is a bit older now and hopefully as mature/responsible as she appears.

Which album do you have? All three of hers are quite good.

It was Speak Now. We don't have any of the others. I like it very much, and I agree that she's a good influence on girls - so far! I even liked the "Dear John" song she wrote, whether it's about John Meyer or not, because it addresses the heartbreak that a young girl can go through when she is headstrong, dates the wrong man, and gets hurt by him. A cautionary tale!

I'm pretty sad about poor old Miley, but I could see it coming, because - hey parents - that's what happens 90% of the time when you put your kids into showbusiness. It's very sad.

I wrote a paper recently about the whole Disney business, and the stars, and what becomes of them, and I wrote about how little girls looked up to Miley, for only a few years later, she is being photographed *almost* topless at age 15, and then gyrating on stage/pole dancing etc. You gotta feel for the parents of those little girls, and for the impression then made on those girls that this is the way to get ahead in life. It's a huge downer.

Miley was particularly disappointing to me because she seemed so different. Back during the height of the Hannah Montana craze, a friend's 5 year old son was battling terminal cancer. One day while he was in children's cancer ward, Miley came by and spent the whole day with the kids. No media, no publicist, nothing. Only a few of the staff knew she was coming. My friend said it was a most genuine time of her entertaining and loving on those kids - and nobody outside that cancer ward knew about it. Then, just a short time later, the spiral downward started. *sigh*

Taylor's song do deal with emotions of girls, openly with mistakes they make ("Fifteen"), yet do so in a way that has fostered conversation with our daughter without being bothersome. Rare these days.

It's nice to know that there was a genuine side to Miley .. back in the day.

"Fifteen" is great!! What a great opener to a conversation between a teenage girl and parents, and what a great song to address what girls are thinking about at that age, and it comes from someone who has been there, and who is credible and cool to that age group. So much better than so much on offer for teenage girls which is all so sexual. I mean have you seen that latest video/song by Selina Gomez? I was watching a Disney show with my youngest child this week, and I saw this video and said "oh my, here comes the latest Lady Gaga" because Ms. Gomez is on her way! Unbelieveable and YUCK.

There's a tropical storm in the gulf and it's heading this way - yay us!!!

We are totally excited. We are so dry now, with every day 100F and over for the past 2 months, and we really need a good, soaking rain. I SO hope that this storm doesn't turn over the gulf and go to Mexico or New Orleans (especially not NO, oh no) and comes right through Texas to us. :D

I hope so too! It's just small enough but yet strong enough to give you guys the good soaking that you need. :)

Ugh. My kids are both getting irritated with Selina. On a total drift, my 10 year old son said Justin Beiber's movie was misnamed. Instead of "Never Say Never" it should have been "Never Sing Never" LOL!!

Glad you understand about Taylor. I can handle reality because of how she presents it. Very little she does will cause parents concern - even the more adult topics are presented euphemistically enough to go over the head of the younger kids. And you hit in on the head with the credible and cool observation.

On the selfish side, she is a great enough song writer that, unlike most stars popular with the kids, this 48 year old man can appreciate and enjoy what she writes as well!!!

In about an hour DW and I head to Roanoke for the weekend. Grandparents will be at our house with kids. We missed our anniversary this year as DW was out of town, and my birthday is Sunday, so this kind of celebrates both of them!

That sounds like such a wonderful get-away. Isn't Roanoke near what's called the "Outer Banks", where a lot of the movies based on Nicholas Sparks books are filmed?

Hope you have/had (by the time you see this) a refreshing time away. Happy birthday!

I'd love to get back out to that area.

In other news, eyelid zits really, really hurt!

Right now I'm a little miffed at yet another e-mail message and/or Facebook status chain that starts out well enough--promotes Christian values--but then tries to guilt-trip you with "Remember, Jesus said if you deny Him before others, He'll deny you before the Father, so are you going to ignore this, or repost/forward/spam others with it?"

Yecch.
