In most wedding ceremonies, peoples mostly prefer artificial wedding cake, that are basically made of foam and covered with icing. And the cheep cake is ordered form a backing company to handle out the guest.. Even get pictures when cutting the cake. Has someone else observed this tendency? These all trends are for only to save wedding expenses. But it inconveniences me for some cause.
Opinion?

Fake cake seems stupid to me. It's not free so why are you buying it? To put on airs? to seem to be something you are not? Just curious. Buy a cake you can afford. One from a grocery is fine, one from a friend is fine, or skip it all together. But buying a fake cake tells me something about you that I don't think you wanted me to know.

At my wedding we paid something like a buck fifty a slice for some of the best cake I have ever eaten. Seriously, the run of the mill wedding cakes that come in at 3.50 to 4.00 a slice couldn't touch our cake. Of course, we were fortunate enough to know a top notch pastry chef that charged a fair price. She made money no doubt, but her expenses were also pretty high. Good cake isn't cheep to make for 250 people. But it doesn't cost 3.50 a slice either.

Our 'fake cake' was a papier-mache rock with hole stuffed with real cake that we drilled out (I'm a geologist). My sister made the 'rock' and my mom baked the cake, and my dad built the 'drill'.

To paraphrase the Mastercard adds; cost of cake mix - $3; meaningfulness (and hilarity), priceless.:)

Also, instead of giving out pieces of cake we purchased candies that look like rocks and pebbles (an obvious theme going on).

LOL Fake Cake???

As a Wedding Photographer... I can't say I've ever seen, or heard of, a fake cake.

We almost always do a "Mock Cake cutting", where they dont actually cut the cake, but instead pose with the cake so we can get some nice pics with it.
he cake is however, very real, and almost always delicious. :p

They actually cut the cake later.
That means they don't have to hire us for the entire night as well as the day... just to wait for one cake cutting.

That sounds stupid, but I know wedding cakes can be expensive. We were fortunate enough that his aunt makes awesome cakes and is pretty handy at decorating them, so she made the wedding cake and the groom's cake as her gift to us :)

For me find someone that it is on their heart to provide the cake and be happy with what they provide. If the cake is fake then what does that say about the marriage? I am not one to spend a lot of money on a fancy wedding. We entertain all the time. We do not waste a lot of money though. It really does not cost all that much. Most of what your paying for is the labor to prepare the food. It is not that difficult to do a wedding pot luck style and get everyone to contribute something. For me it should be more like when the Amish build a barn. The men do the work and the women cook the food and everyone has a good time that day. With us we always have huge amounts of food left over. It always seems like people take home with them more then they brought. Or maybe God just multiplies it all somehow someway. Jesus could feed a lot of people with very little. He had a lot left over. It takes all our friends working together to make a marriage work. It is not just a show we put on for people.
