yeah, there are a lot of boring RPGs out there. usually...if you stick to square, it'll be good. usually.
or there were some good old school RPGs.

lufia I and II - kinda like the DW series, but not quite.
illusion of gaia - really good
terranigma - starts off slow. but it's like a zelda meets secret of mana
earthbound - so cute. i love this game.
soul blazer - interesting game. pretty fun
zelda: a link to the past - pretty good
secret of mana - a must have
secret of evermore - not as good as mana...but pretty good.
chrono trigger - one of the best RPGs ever made
super mario rpg - as good as some of the FF games.
dragon warrior IV (nes) - the best of the series, IMO

Non FF RPGs?

For the Playstation I recommend Saga Frontier (it is definitely not the caliber of FF but it is interesting nonetheless) Legend of Mana (a must if you like anime-style RPGs)

Speaking of cool anime-style Playstation RPGs, I have one more recommendation of a personal favorite but it's not for everyone. That's ChronoCross. -^.^-

Celes in FF3/6
Yuffie in FF7 - same bday as me:D so i always used her
Quina in FF9 - sooo cute! i guess that's bad...considering he/she's a part of saving the world:D

rydia in FF2/4
and i don't really have a favorite character in other games. they're not as cool or fun to play with. i guess it's cuz they don't really have their own personality.

i felt that they had too many characters in chrono cross. i like lots of characters...but not that many.
i love to build up my people to high levels. with 50 people, i can't do that. and that frustrates me!:( well..unless i play for hundreds of hours. but by then, i'll get sick of it.

I felt that I need to re-post the rules since they are all the way back on page one. Everyone has done wonderfully, and no one is in trouble, nevertheless I want to do this preemptively for newbies:

Moderators: Please watch this thread closely for hentai and other inappropriate contentographic material as I mentioned in point 1. I don't want that and I want anyone who posts it after reading the warnings below BANNED at once.

Important edits: please re-read this post. . .

There may be discussions of games or animes that very young children (7 to 11 or 12) should not see yet, so I am setting the minimum age at 13.

If you are 12 and a half, have parental permission to discuss/watch anime/play games rated for 13 and up, and want to post here, PM me and we will discuss letting you in. . .but if you're 8, wait a few years. . .

I want to make this perfectly clear:

RULE 4 VIOLATIONS LEAD TO BANNING. I don't want to see any of you that may feel allowed to partake in things that would violate rule 4 banned-I want you to stay on the Forums and I want to let God work in your heart if what you are doing is wrong. So I will give you a clear and unambiguous warning:

So, how do I NOT violate Rule 4 or other rules here?

1: NO posting of hentai, yaoi, henyaori, ecchi, yuri, lemon fanfiction, or borderline any of the above . This is obvious, I think, but just to be sure I want to state it.

2: No posting of images or writing that you or someone you know would not want a 12 or 13 year old kid seeing. This obviously applies to the above, but it also applies to things which don't quite reach that level of disgusting but are still unbecoming for Christians to post. Included would be the *worst* scene from an otherwise fine anime or game for discussion here (for instance the transformation of Serge scene from "Chrono Cross"), fanfiction that is not "lemon," but that is very *close to the grove,* bad language spelled in ways to dodge the censor filter (l337 spellings or one asterisk or dash rather than totally blanking it out), and/or anything else of that order.

3: Posting of links: Obviously links to hentai, yaoi, etc. are not allowed and bannable. Other links are OK, as long as they are not to M or AO-rated, R or NC17-rated, or otherwise highly objectionable material as defined in notes 1 and 2.

I changed 3 to be a simple ban on highly objectionable materials because it was a bit restrictive as a requirement for respondents PM links that were not appropriate for 8 and older (before you would have had to PM someone a link for "Final Fantasy" game tips or for a review for "Legend of Mana," for example.)

4: No posting of or discussions of overtly anti-Christian material. This does NOT mean that you cannot discuss, for example, "Pokemon," "Yu-Gi-Oh," or others that have some obviously fantastical "magical" content. This DOES mean that for another example, dissertations on the crucifixion of Shinji in "Neon Genesis Evangelion" are NOT allowed. (Not to mention that would break the borderline hentrash rule too. . . !)

Friendly admin popping in to say....

The reason everyone has stuck to the rules is because this has been a fun thread and they don't want to be warned, in any capacity, by the moderators of this particular forum.  :)  altya, Blessed-One, and myself have been keeping an eye on all the threads in this forum making sure that the rules of the board, as well as the rules specific for this forum are followed.  I know that because any discussion on anime and RPGs can get out of hand (as seen in other areas) I have kept a close eye on this thread.

I would hope that Christians in general do not participate in sharing hentai or other inappropriate contentographic materials, and thus would not bring those things to this or any other thread.

If anyone at any time has any concerns about this thread, or any other threads in this forum...there are some things you can do.  You can report a suspicious thread.  There's a handy-dandy report link at the bottom of each post.  Doing that will send an e-mail and a PM to the moderators of this forum alerting them that there's a concern.

Also, if you would like to start a thread that you feel might cause some uproar (like the thought was about this thread originally...thus Susan's concern) you are more then welcome to PM altya, Blessed-One, or myself about what type of a thread you are starting.  This way we are aware of it and know to keep an extra vigilant eye on it.

That's it.  Thanks for listening and post through.  :)

OK, you asked for it: I have a lot hehehe

NES:

The Sage class character in Dragon Warrior III (very cool, I can't wait to play the GBA version, call me nostalgic lol)

SNES:

Rydia, Cecil, and the Dwarves in FFII

Midia in Paladin's Quest (one of the first female characters who could actually win a fight -^.^-)

Ryu (the main character) in Breath of Fire, also Bleu/Blue (the snakewoman mage-although I hated those character in BOF III for the Playstation because the writer made turn toward near-ecchi with both, grr )

Popoie (the Sprite) and the Rabite in Secret of Mana

Locke, Celes, and Mog in FFIII

The dog in Secret of Evermore

Princess Toadstool in Super Mario RPG

Playstation One:

Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII: Though I HATED that game, that was one of the best characters in it, with the exception of one or two bits of dialogue that were not so good.

Riki in SaGa Frontier 1 (awww)

Orlandu (sp? Not sure it has been a while since I played, almost 2 years or more) in Final Fantasy Tactics.

Selphie, Rinoa, Quistis, and Irvine in FFVIII

The Chobin Hoods, Niccolo, and the Rabite in Legend Of Mana

Leena, Razzly, Poshul, NeoFio, and Turnip in ChronoCross

What are your favorite scenes in anime or RPGs? Name your top 5 favorites here and where they are from. As of now. . .

1: The ending in "FFII" for the SNES. To this day, this is one of the gold standards for the ending of an RPG, IMHO: the last remaining loose ends in the plot were resolved, each character had a scene, and best of all, although it didn't have today's CG graphics ( :( ) a full screen was reserved for the ending rather than a split screen with the credits.

2: The Best Ending in "Chrono Trigger." Yet another wonderful ending, and I heard it is even better in the rerelease.

3: Squall and Rinoa on the flight home in the Ragnarok in "FFVIII." Call me mushy, whatever, but this is a favorite scene of mine despite that annoying vocalist in the song.

4: The first ride through the city on a broom scene (about 20 minutes into the movie more or less) in "Kiki's Delivery Service." LOL!!!

5: The "Best" ending in ChronoCross. Good music, the integration of anime and live-action film shots. . .-^.^- (Although the reference to reincarnation may make it a no-no for some people who are weak-minded enough to believe in it or who are fearful enough to think that reading a line from a false belief will cause a demon to harm them.)

BTW, if you still have a copy of FFII for the SNES, it had one of the last examples of a classic mistake in translation to be seen in a game (the translators have since improved much on the grammatical angle lol) Go to the "cafe" above the inn in Kaipo, and search the papery object on the wall. In the original US release it is a sign that says "Desert Refreshment for Perched Throats."

I heard that it was corrected in FFIV (the Playstation rerelease) so don't bother looking for it there because you won't find it.

LOL :D

And Microsoft does not promise the public that the Blue Screen of Death and other infamous Windows' "features" have been fixed for the upcoming release of their OS?. . .;) :D
