what do you know of McCain's pastor?

Absolutely nothing whatsoever.

And that is the way is should be.

In the final analysis, most importantly, I will judge both Barack Obama's fitnes and John McCain's fitness for POTUS by the words that come out of THEIR mouths, and how they have and are conducting THEMSELVES in public.

Have you considered doing the same?

Never, and I think it is perhaps the most foolish suggestion I've read in quite a while.

Why would I only want to compare the manufactured and focus grouped images the candidates want me to see? Why would I not be interested in the stuff the candidates are scurrying to distance themselves from?

If there were a candidate who spoke openly and honestly, didn't have to hire a gaggle of handlers and researchers and pollsters before saying a thing, and made public all their past writings and records, then that may be such a person to accept on their presented image alone. Sadly, there are none like this still in the race today.

what a scary theology indeed.
Yep, you would need to be indoctrinated in it to sit through even one minute of it. There is a reason this stuff shocks non-infected normal people.
There is no basis for it from a biblical perspective, it's a hate filled cult of finger pointers.

It's a real issue, IMHO this issue will cost Obama the election.

I never said "only" but "most importantly". You may be so used to speaking in absolutes you tend to interpret other people's statement to be so and ignore their qualifiers. Not good.

What I am talking about here - I thought it was obvious - was the responses to questions by reports and the responses to questions in debate and/or the detailed writings regarding their policy positions, e.g. the "issues" link on barackobama.com.

But there is much a voter can learn about the candidates from watching their public statements of youtube, as we all know. The ones of Obama one finds on youtube are generally smears based on issues I would not dignify to even call "peripheral".

However there are tons of videos of Hillary Clinton and John McCain that show them for what they truly are - their own words condemn them.

E.g., on McCain, you can put words like "McCain flip flop" or "McCain angry" in search at youtube and learn just what a horrible choice he is for ANY public office.

Examples:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZfN3buNZRo&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CazKanlYDg&feature=related

Do you REALLY want someone this childish anywhere near a red phone in the White House? If so, why - exactly?

Honestly, utube is good for jokes and not much more. With all the editing tools out there, I won't take it seriously.

I just finished reading this article. It conveys much of what I was trying to: (emphasis added)
Call it "guilt by association" if you like, but some voters are wisely asking questions about the company Sen. Barack Obama chooses to keep. Yes, it's true that similar questions haven't been asked about other candidates, like John McCain for example, but with good reason:

Most people running for president have actually DONE something.

Since Barack Obama has never had a significant private sector job, has never run a business, has never been an executive, has served in national government for less than three years and avoided 120 key votes during his brief service in the state legislature, it's hard to evaluate him on his non-existent record.

So voters are stuck evaluating the public choices he has made, and then calculating what sort of president he would make.

That's all basically a smear. E.g., I'm not saying Obama is anything like JFK, Lincoln, or Nixon, but compare his accomplishments in life to those guys prior to becoming president. Nixon was the most experienced in government work. Impressed, are you, with his performance as president compared to the others?

As for Barack missing "120 key votes" while serving in his "brief" legislative time:

1. eight years is not "brief" - obviously an attempt to smear Obama.

2. Who says they were "key"? During those eight years I have heard that Barrack votes about 4,000 times and missed 130 or so votes - around three per cent. It is my understanding that is better than average for a legislator - another obvious attempt to smear.

Barack Obama has written two books which detail what he has been doing with his life. Don't tell me his life has been a worthless waste of time until you read those books and critique them for us here.

I am not a literal Obama worshipper like so many people seem to be, especially the millions of young people who have now registered to vote because of his campaign for president, but I will say this - compared to the two alternatives Obama is THE outstanding choice for president - not a saint, just a person who doesn't lie as a way of life and/or lose his temper like a child.

More importantly the youtube and similar sites on the net could very well provide the winning margin for Obama in November.

There are NO videos of Obama on youtube wherein he just loses it and goes postal on some poor fool who made the mistake of being in the same room with him. At least, I don't know of any such videos. If anything, Obama is about the most thoughtful and judicious person who has ever run for POTUS in my lifetime, I'm thinking.

OTOH, wow, there are dozens and dozens of videos of McCain just making a horrible a** of himself, not to mention the documented statements listed in various articles about his abuse of other senators and even abusing his own wife in public.

Just go to youtube and put the words "McCain angry" or "McCain flip flops" in search. It looks like McCain spends half his time blessing some poor innocent out and the other half completely changing his position on some important issue.

Good thing Wright is not running for president. I could never vote for him.

I wasn't really implying you, but the general use of youtube.

That's because you are typical white guy :p

Seriously I have read some his stuff too and I don't think it warrants all this outrage it has been given and much if not most of his postions have been taken completely out of context.

Plus it's just words and not actions. I.e., the last I heard the Rev. Wright has not been charged with molesting ONE child much less THOUSANDS.

Don't Republicans read the newspapers? :D

I'm still waiting for someone to pull out real issues that affect real Americans. So far, we've heard a lot of manufactured outrage over Obama and his slime-by-associations, but we've heard very little - if anything - about the myriad issues facing this country.

Which is why we've said all along that these petty issues about pastors and flag lapel pins are distractions. Nobody cares except a couple of right-wingers who want to make it an issue.

But he has molested the minds of over 8,000 + peeps with a skewed theology written by man and not the Word of the Holy Bible but a perversion under the guise of Christianity. And in particular he has been spiritual mentor for over 20 years to one particular presidential hopeful.

1) Don't see how you can equate actual molestation with a rather slivered section of words of one man. I think those who have been actually molested would just give you one blank stare.
2) You have no idea the actual positive contributions that Wright, his church, and his words have actually manifested into real and working programs that are much Christ-like.
3) The words and acts of Jesus have been skewed from day one and skewed theology is the basis of Christanity.

It's just what one person accepts as their skewed version.

Well....Hitler got peeps to stop doing things to THE CHOSEN PEEPS also. Guess how? Should we except any kind of theology because there are some good aspects of the total picture? Or do we make a stand where things are not right?

Propaganda like this foments an ignorance about black culture -- by mischaracterizing how black people actually tend to feel -- that matures into pseudo-racism. The key is that it's not acceptable to say blacks are inferior anymore, so that claim is replaced by the very institutions that birthed it with a new lie. The new lie is that modern black culture is so hateful of white people that white people should be terrified of black culture instead of blacks in general. And neo-cons can do all that loathing while, in a pedantic way, not actually being racist.

Look at the demographics that used to be racist. They're the ones who now keep saying, "Black people blame everything on white people, black people are racist, black culture is destructive, neener neener neener." This is evolution in action, people.

I can only assume the baseless charges against black liberation theology are rooted in the racism that has been warmed over by the charred politically correct embers. The post above makes an excellent point about how some sentiments are still in tact and rhetoric is the only change for some sad individuals still caught up in insecurity manifested through their racism.
