Well, let me just say what I liked about FFVII:

1. Materia System!!!
2. Weirdo persona interchange
3. Clones!
4. Weapons??
5. Story line

Those are just a few...

What I didn't like:

1. The entire Don Corneo shenanigan, including Honeybees
2. Aeris dying
3. The prizes for beating the Weapons
4. Trying to get a Gold Chocobo!!!
5. Lame, ambiguous ending

There... do what you must.

FFVII: Blasphemy, the clothing on the "female" characters, mythological and religious entities, some of which are not made up from the writers' imaginations, swearing, etc. . .

In many games, the inclusion of some of these can be overlooked, and the use of magic can be overlooked by Christians and not affect mature Christians, but all of those aspects, as well as other aspects, together, do not add up to a game with any playability for a Christian .

Oh really? I found it very playable, and I'm a Christian.

It is fantasy. Yes, there are hints of real-world mythologies, but so what?!? Even the Bible is a compilation and reshaping of other cultures' mythologies in the first 11 chapters of Genesis. There is a definite drawing from Sumerian/Babylonian mythologies there. The point is, pantheons are not evil unless they come between you and Christ. If it causes you to stumble then don't play it. Me? I play whatever fantasy-genre games I see fit according to my convictions, and FFVII was not bad enough for me to reject.

And, secondly, we are discussing videogames here, please leave the Biblical theories back in GA or GT. . .

You're the one that mentioned
mythological and religious entities, some of which are not made up from the writers' imaginations
, my friend. You opened the topic, and I made a brief statement, not an apologetic rebuttal. Trust me, I can do much more than a simple, singular statement. Mythology is my field, Mr. Sheep.

i like the story line for most of the final fantasy games. that's what is most important to me...cuz i get bored easily.
and of course, there is the music. it adds to the moment.
oh...and the characters are really cool...plus all that other stuff. i love buying weapons and armor.:) SO FUN getting new stuff. everything is pretty cool.

all the FF games are pretty cool,.except there was that one final fantasy game...final fantasy mystic quest? i just played that game again a few weeks ago. pretty...bad.

seriously? for me...
number 3 on snes (or VI on psx) was my favorite.
then it was 7
and third would be 9.

2 (or IV on psx) was pretty good...but i can't stand the graphics...and the story really is kinda weak. i used to love watching my brother play.
MQ, again, was the worst one...IMO

i haven't played 8, but i heard that it was the worst one (other than MQ). i played the beginning part, and i didn't think much of it.
Tactics...never played, but heard was good.
i have yet to play 10.
and can't wait for XI...the online one. hehe:)

As a closing note to the debate:

My stance on this issue is NOT anti-mythology. I think the mythology is interesting, and the only time it is actually bad IMHO is when it is things that are at this time actually worshipped or that are actual concepts that are at this time given credence-and those are front and center in the plot.

My stance is simply anti-blasphemy. The main reason I do not like FF7 are those 16 uses of a combination profanity that is as offensive to me as a Christian as a racial epithet would be, even more so because it does not insult a mere human, that word insults God Himself. The etymyology of that disgusting word is a request for the wrath of God.

In FF7 the word is not only used in scenes of extreme anger or sorrow, where the most liberal of writers could claim "artistic justification" (like the scene where it is used by one of the characters after the destruction of Sector 7), but in mundane scenes like a petty domestic fight and even a malfunctioning device. In those situations, that word was not only blasphemy (as bad as that is), but overkill of a severe form. It was the writing equivalent of using a nuclear bomb where a stone would have more than sufficed for the dialogue. As a writer, I consider that not just sin, but incredibly bad writing.

Before anyone mentions translation being accurate as the reason, let me ask you this: if this game had had the word in Japanese that would translate as the N-word, would any responsible translator leave it as such? Not unless he wanted an uproar. . .the word would be changed (and rightly so) out of not wanting to offend African-American players.

They didn't even have to edit severely if they wanted accuracy: if they wanted to simply cut the first 3 letters of that combination profanity and leave the "wash my mouth," to preserve the so called "impact," they could have, as while that word is not good and is a sin for Christians to speak, it is at least not a direct misuse of God's name.

My other main problem was the times it danced verrrry close to hentai. I'm saying in that one scene, it skimmed the bone by inches.

...nope.

anyone played any other RPGs?
how about the Dragon Warrior series? i know the story line for those games are...really cheap. plus, it's mostly a game of leveling up and spening tons of hours getting gold to buy weapons...
but i say that it's a real stategy game. i love FF for everything, but all of them are way too easy.
don't worry...FF is still at the top of my list.

any other RPG games other than the ones made by square?

Paladin's Quest, SNES, 1993, by Enix is one of my all-time favorites. Great game, it needs to be rereleased now that the technology for graphics, sound, and memory is sooo much better. It would make a GREAT PS2 game. . .:) -^.^-

---------------

Indeed, the Final Fantasy creator (Hironobu Sakaguchi) has involved a LOT of eastern mysticism, and also other gods of other religions as well. Allow me to be frank, my parents have tried to mkae me stop, they freaked about the magic and 'potions' (healing items), but I dont, why? Because It does not affect me, but it may you. That is why everyone should get along. Second, look at this: all of these are summons in the games: Shiva, Hindu blood thirsty god, Odin, almighty god of the vikings. Kinda odd? But, by all means, I am in no way saying not to play these games. I still like them..I am contradicting myslef...
