Well me and my fiancee have finally decided to close the vows and get married. We been planning for a few months now, but we had our interview at my church today with the deacon and have all the planning set.. We have to go through a course called Pre-Cana retreat which is a pre-marriage counseling, and I have to get my baptismal records. Im worried about those since I was baptized as a baby and might not be able to get them, but if its so I might just get a re-baptism to get a record of the certificate..My Fiancee is actually non-denominational so she dosen't like all the rules and steps we have to take, but she is doing it for me because it means alot for me. She got kinda angry with the deacon we were talking to because me and my fiancee are roomates and we both kinda got chastized for living together(we are roomates more for a fiancial reason, because her old roomate left), but we are remaining chaste before marriage. The deacon thought that was very good that we were doing that and suggested sleeping in a different bed than my fiancees, but that is gonna be hard to do....Hopefully we will get through this all peacefully.. The payment is around 1500$ for the wedding, idk if that is considered expensive or not, it includes the rental of the cathedral and the deacon/preists, music, rehearsals, and cordinators..Our wedding date is set at the church on Sept 14th. :)

Congratulations!

There is no such thing as a "re-baptism" so scrap that idea. Fortunately, Catholic parishes invented bureaucracy, so as long as you know where you were baptised, there WILL be a record of it. And your parents probably have your baptismal certificate anyway - that will do it.

I second the deacon in sleeping separately until the wedding. Really. Good on you for staying chaste though!! Living together would make that extra difficult, so WELL DONE YOU TWO.

God bless you both!

Congrats.. For some reason I always though you were married..Tell her about the priest's concern about avoiding all appearance of evil regarding living together..I think it's great to have pre marital classes.it should be a requirement for any believer applying for a marriage license. One heads up for you. My wife lived in the apartment above me. The last few months were an EXTREME tempation..Our councilor reaally pushed us to keep pure and get out in the public when the passions were at there peak.Anyway, thanks for sharing and may the Lord bless you abundantly as you two prepare to enter into a marriage covenant before Him..Blessings in Christ..Kim

Thanx so much

Yea the pre counseling is required.. One is a Natural Cycle class(natural birth control) and the other I don't know yet.. It called a pre-cana retreat..

THe baptismal thing worries me because I don't think they will have the record. If my mother dosen't remember the church I was baptized in when I was an infant I might be in trouble(she has alztimers)..

Congratulations!

I was just married myself last week :)

My husband and I were also under the same roof prior to the wedding, for the same reasons as yourself. Although we were not chastised by our priest, we did decided on our own accord to remain chaste until the wedding. As we were under the same roof, This was EXTREMELY difficult; but we were determined and prevailed. Our wedding night was only that more special for this reason.

Trust me, your decision to remain chaste IS the right one. You will not regret it. :)

My parents did preCana. It is preparation for living as a married couple:thumbsup:.

Were you baptised in the Catholic Church? If so, make a list of the likely parishes and send them each a letter explaining your predicament. You could also contact the diocesan office and ask them for advice and help in finding your baptism details. Most parishes keep this information in a big old book, but some have become so technological that they also have a computer record. You will need to tell the parish your full name, your date of birth, when you think you were baptised, and who your parents and godparents were. It'll be someone's afternoon work to look through the book until they find you or are sure you're not there. They can issue you with a copy of your baptism certificate.:)

When my husband and I were received into the Catholic Church just over a year ago, we had to produce our Baptism certificates.... I had mine and although my husband knew that he had been baptised he had no certificate to prove it.... he and his 3 siblings were baptised at the same time, they had their certificates though.

We tried to find a copy but sadly the church he was baptised in [a presbeterian one] had been vandelised and many records destroyed, so he was unable to get a copy.

Our Priest did then a conditional baptism for my husband. Saying incase you have not been baptised before I now baptise you......

So dont worry too much, try and get a copy, if you cant then there will be an answer to the problem, much like my husband had I think.

Blessings

Les

Renton I want you to take a breath :D! DO NOT WORRY! You will find your records it will be ok. The Church is smart about all this stuff. Just be faithful they will be found peacefuly and witout a problem. When I got confirmed last year I was certain I wasnt going to be able to find mine. Did some calling and they showed up safely.

As for the temptations take them one day at a time and remain vigilant. Yall are going to do great I know you will! God bless both of you. How exciting! Don't let your stress over your records take away from your joy! They will come up!

Thanx so much..

Well I called my mother and unfortunatly she dosen't remember the church. It was a Lutheran church, so Im gonna call the Lutheran churches around in her area to see if they can help..My fiancee said she felt a little looked down upon because they won't do a communion because her and many of her family isn't Catholic, the deacon said it would be too confusing to have a communion and because of our belief on the Real Presence. Im trying to explain to her about the Real Presence and how it differs so she dosen't feel bad..Ive been trying alot for her to come to my side(convert) but she is a 'free spirit' type and dosen't like the 'rules' as she calls it..

Its great though because when we decided to get engaged she was set on NOT getting married in my church/faith. She wanted the wedding in her mom's backyard of their beautiful house. There was nothing I could do, but lo and behold she finally compromised and said she would get married in the church and have a special ring ceremony in her mom's backyard(kinda like 2 weddings, one official and one celebration).. im really glad how God made it work out for me

Hi Renton,
:crossrc: for you!
You guys are allowed to have a Mass, but ask her to imagine how she and her family would feel at not being able to participate!

I hope and pray that things go smoothly for the two of you. A mixed marriage can be hard, especially as she is required to allow the children to be Catholic. It must be hard, especially knowing yourself that the authority of the Church is liberating, not a burden.
