Probably hanging out at home.

It is the last weekend we have with our little boy before he goes to school, so we want to have a nice quiet weekend because the following week is going to be an adjustment for ALL of us.

Also the weekend after R is working ALL weekend, so we will need a weekend at home because the following weekend, is going to be busy.

I'll be eating lentil patties and avoiding anyone who doesn't think Sam Kekovich is a complete moron.
Same.

I must be incredibly un-Australian to not be eating lamb on Australia Day. ^_^

Gee I wonder who we can blame for inciting racial tension...

Australia day is one of the things I really like about Australia, every one is happy and celebrates together (atleast it appeared that way last year when I was over there). The NZ equivalent is a bit tense.
a fair proportion of Australia's 500,000 Aborigines aren't happy and don't celebrate together with everyone else. there will be protest marches &c. in many australian cities.

I didn't know that. I was in Sydney for it last year, saw signs up for big community barbeques on the beach with every one invited and thought "hey that's cool, why don't we do that sorta thing?"

a lot of australians seem to forget that australia day is celebrating the first day of permanent european settlement in australia, a settlement that did not acknowledge the Aboriginal ownership of the land, did not seriously attempt to negotiate any settlement with the Aboriginal people, resulted in the murder of thousands of Aboriginal people, unfair and racist treatment of Aboriginal people for many years, serious damage to many Aboriginal cultures, &c. &c. &c.

i am not arguing that we should not celebrate Australia Day, not at all. just that it should be held on a different date, a date when all Australians can celebrate together, commemorate all that is Australian and not just one aspect of our history, move on from the past and work toward a positive future where we are all Australians, where we recognise and celebrate our many different cultures, and where we all learn from each other.
