The last trumpet.
A common error is man's tendency to form a concept of how a prophetical event is going to actually transpire, and then ignore any time-element involved in the scripture . Choosing instead to wait for things to happen as he thinks they must.
This might be safe and justifiable, if the prophetical event is described and defined in plain, literal, unsymbolic language but many are not. Therefore, we must consider the (time-element that inheres in a passage) for it is always placed there for a purpose and then form our concept of how a prophecy was to be fulfilled by considering what actually happened when it was supposed to happen.
Lest look into the book of Revelation were it say: But in the days of the sounding of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound the mystery of God would be finished, as He declared to His servants the prophets (Revelation 10:7).
What was the biblical (time-element involved) before the seventh angel was to sound his trumpet? The mystery of God would be finished, as He declared to His servants the prophets.
We see that just before the sounding of the last trumpet the mystery of God would be finished.
What was this mystery? Well according to the inspired Apostle Paul the mystery was the revelation of Christ. Now to him that is of power to establish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began (Romans 16:25).
The revelation of Christ and the gospel, was connected with the sounding of the last trumpet. We will do well to allow inspiration to tell us the time and manner of the last trumpet. According to the inspired Apostle Paul the mystery that had been hiding from the ages and generations, was now is made manifested to his saints (Colossians 1:26; Ephesians 3:3; 6:19).
Things hidden before concerning Christ are now unveiled and made public. Since Paul says the (time-element) was then established by the preaching of Christ to the saints the seventh trumpet according to Revelation 10:7 was ready to be sounded.
This, of course, puts the sounding of the seventh trumpet and its results in the spiritual realm. Failure to recognize that simple, but vital truth is largely responsible for the misplacement and misapplication of Christ's second advent. Also this traditional literalistic concept of a second coming has forced a time and manner of fulfillment upon the book of Revelation that lifts it from its context and alienates it from God's spiritual system of redemption.
Un able to relate the mystery and the seventh trumpet it to anything that has been, or now is, man looks to the future and not the Bible for an answer to its mysteries and seventh trumpet. But the correct time and place for the things in the last book of the Bible will never be found in future events or history.
Had the Jews followed this rule of time-element interpretation, they would not have allowed their preconceived concept of the Messiah to overrule the time-element resident in their prophecies concerning his coming. But they chose to ignore the time factors while waiting for the Messiah of their concept. Thus, they knew not the time of their visitation (Luke 19:41-44; Isa. 10:3).
A literal concept of the sounding of the trumpet is contrary to the nature, need, and purpose of John's revelation.
