    If memory serves me correctly, the obligation is not dropped on a Sunday or Monday for the Immaculate Conception and Christmas. The OP is correct about IC. I am sure it is because Mary, under that title, is patroness of the US. As an interesting point of interest, on the universal calendar...

    typical penances

    Our chaplain likes to give out so many Our Father's. Today my penance was 5 of them. He occasionally also comments briefly on some part of that prayer when assigning the penance, tying it in with the advise he has given us.
