    Fess Up! Harry Potter fans?

The Sorting Hat also tells Harry that he'd do well in Slytherin when Harry is first sorted. The conversation with the hat in CoS is in reference to that. As for the animagus - patronus connection- here's a relevant comment from Rowling from a recent chat. class 14: If you were a animagus...

    Modern Literary Geniuses

Stephen Donaldson (Chronicles of Tomas Covenant the Unbeliever) - Vividly human characters painted with poignant prose (nice alliteration, eh?) who engage in epic struggles. His writing makes me want to write in the way listening to Eric Clapton makes me want to play guitar. Ursula Le Guin...

What is the best game you've ever played?

Star Control 2 is my favourite game ever. If interested, check out The Ur-Quan Masters, a PC port of the 3D0 version of the game. No worries, it's fully legal.

    Pirate games

There's a Sega Genesis version which is better, and not too hard to find now with an emulator. The PC version was one of the first games I ever purchased. :) I enjoy it for nostalgia, but it doesn't hold up well with more modern games.

    Anyone Using Lindows?

If you're just getting into Linux, and aren't sure which end of the pool to jump in, I'd recommend Knoppix (www.knoppix.org). Their distro is free and you can boot it just from your CD, don't even need to install it.

    Verses relating to Women

Exodus:21:7-8 "If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as menservants do. If she does not please the master who has selected her for himself, he must let her be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, because he has broken faith with her." v10 continues...

    Predestination/Election

Since no one is claiming that man can choose God by himself, it would follow that no one has posted verses supporting this view.

    Predestination/Election

I see no reason for any mutual exclusion between predestination and free will. We are clearly elected (Eph 1:3-6). There is also choice, as per Deut 30:19 mentioned earlier, and others, particularly the prophets. God has/had clearly choosen the nation of Israel, but they (for a time) rejected...

    Divine Foreknowledge

Regarding 1). God knows that I can only think in human terms. He is a spirit, yet describes himself as stretching out his hand, or hiding his face, or protecting us with his wings. He doesn't have a body, by definition of "spirit", so these statements obviously aren't literally true. Does...

    CS Lewis

Mere Christianity is probably his most well known theological work, and it's not bad, though not my favourite of his. A few very impactful sections though. If you haven't had much prior exposure to apologetics, this I'd stronly recommend this, if you have, then it gets a moderate...

    Divine Foreknowledge

There are instances in the Bible where it would indicate that God doesn't exhaustively know the future. For example, He's surprised sometimes when people reject him. In Isa 5:4b, God is using an unproductive vineyard as an anaology of Jerusalems rebellion, and says "Why, when I expected it to...
