From what I have been told lindows is terrible, it crashes often. It is the complexity of simple linux with the stability of windows me.

If I were you I would get a mandrake or slackware or something of the like. They are cheap linux solutions and with the KDE desktop they are almost as simple as windows. And if you get wine http://www.winehq.com you can emulate any windows programs to run on your linux machine.

I'm thinking about ordering a copy and putting it on my next PC (which I'll either order without an OS or build myself).

You'll run into alot of software compatability issues. Software companies do not code their software for Lindows. The software that they do offer on the Lindows website is all full of bugs as well. It's just not worth the pain. If anything do what the others said with Linux

I came across a website that offered the latest version of Lindows, Developer's Edition free of charge. It's normally $60 off the Lindow's site. I downloaded it but i also have Red Hat 8 installed on my laptop to learn along with a "Red Hat for Dummies" book:p

As usual, my enthusiasm for learning Linux has waned but Red Hat installed fine and i can get on the 'net and surf but for doing anything else like install software i'm totally clueless:eek: Time to crack that book open and LEARN :prayer:

If you want a perfect mix of Linux and Windows, get Xandros.

Xandros is Debian-based, and therefore is very stable. It is VERY user-friendly. It also comes with Crossover Office and Crossover Plugins, so you can use Microsoft Office, Outlook, as well as many other popularly used Windows compatible applications such as Realplayer and the like. :)

Well, I WILL say this....keep in mind it's not cheap. It DOES cost $90 for the version with Crossover Office, and $40 for the version without Crossover Office.

This being said, it works THE SMOOTHEST that I've EVER seen ANY Linux install work.

Yeah Thanks again. I just now noticed that they had a free download link for Xandros 2.0 but the link no longer worked and I searched for the download and noticed the prices. I will have to wait but it still is alot cheaper than Microsoft. I will give it a try because it looks awesome and has gotten almost perfect scores in the reviews.

That's the reason I'm getting it. As one very knowledgable Linux reviewer put it, "I sat there waiting for it to break and mess up on me, and after quite a while, it got rather boring, because no matter what I asked it to do - burn CD's, hop on a Windows network, surf the net, run Office - it would work perfectly." ^_^

I wonder if he ever tried to close an .avi file and open another one quickly. That always locks windows media player (and necessitated a restart before 2k).
