  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Women and Employment

MacArthur is reformed Baptist. I was wondering about Lydia too. They did meet at Lydia's home. She may have been an anomaly, but they didn't seem to have problems with that. I was thinking that she might have taken over her husband's business after his death and may even have been an equal...

    Women and Employment

The book also contains chapters about relationships, wives, husbands, children, parents and addresses divorce and remarriage. One verse used is Titus 2:3-5, especially the phrase in verse 5, “workers at home.” MacArthur states, “I think the emphasis is really that wives ought...

    Women and Employment

I am currently reading a book called The Family by John MacArthur Jr.. In it he states that according to scripture, women should not work outside the home. Doing so would be considered disobedience to God, i.e. sin. He maintains that there are no exceptions to this rule and that if the men of...

    Most Interesting Evening

For me the teaching is important, but interpersonal relationships that support growth in Christ are more important. I think that many Christians are growing in Christ in one way or another. to do this it would help greatly if we have personal relationships with other Christians. I'd say that as...

    bush?

I don't think any party is perfect and won't get sidetracked by "issues" that I think people invent to get the vote of the moral majority. I didn't vote for Bush either time, and yes I did vote.

    Anyone got any advice?

I've had a few times in my life that seemed that bad to me. Both times I made a new commitment to God, to really get to know him better and serve him better. Prayer wasn't enough; just believing in what I prayed wasn't going to do the trick. I needed to turn fully to God in attitude and...

looking for a dedicated and comforting church

Reformed might fit, I know of one that fits your criteria pretty well. Not all reformed churches are ultra-conservative. You might have to hunt around a bit. Some also use the home-church format.

    Bashing Christians

Ahhh, practical Christianity, that isn't easy for a lot of people. I used to do a bit of bashing myself, it gets tiresome. So does the I'm ok, you're ok thing. Seeking the Lord and working on one's character for the benefit of others is a prerequisite to addressing issues, I think, though for...

most common "denomination" of home churches?

As I mentioned elsewhere, most in the church I attend now (primarily for American ex-pats) come from a fundamental/evangelical background. I consider myself to be neither now. Being out of certain Christian sub-cultural circles for a while, due to living abroad and isolated from fellow...

    Just out of curiosity . . .

Currently, I am attending a church that has no building of its own, but meets at a room in a "religious center" generously provided by a local RCC. What money they collect is more directly available - usually to pay the pastor and a growing number of ministers - they don't get that much. The...

    Pretend Christians.

I can associate with lots of people, but only really make friends with those that I find to be sincere. Sure, there may be fakers in a church I attend, but who am I to say who those people are or if they should leave? I can't judge their souls. The church community as a whole might be able to...

    Women Silence

I think that the letter was addressed to all saints at Corinth at that time. They also had a tongues problem. If things are similar today, I have personally seen many more women "speaking in tongues" - that is, gibberish - than men. And I never have personally witnessed anyone speaking tongues...

    Christianese

I'm not photogenic, and Jessica Alba looks like a prettier and younger version of myself. Hot, yeah, I could be if I wanted to...Jessica Alba gets paid for it, I don't. More Christianese: - You're being carnal. I don't want you to go to the movies or to the pub or do anything that could...

    What is a "Non-Denominational" Church?

The pastor occasionally mentions the cards, but says to fill one out IF one wants to be on the list. At this church it is sometimes necessary to be online, or at least be on a telephone number list. Sometimes plans change, like this coming Sunday we will celebrate somewhere else, because a few...

    Is touching yourself a sin

I don't agree with WWJD either, but rather with what did Jesus do. What did he teach? He taught that the heart is where sin starts, in our thoughts, motives and intentions. I'd say that if someone can get away with masturbation without fantasizing or imagining a sinful situation, being...
