  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't agree with WWJD either, but rather with what did Jesus do. What did he teach? He taught that the heart is where sin starts, in our thoughts, motives and intentions.

I'd say that if someone can get away with masturbation without fantasizing or imagining a sinful situation, being discreet, then it wouldn't be a sin...but with human nature as it is, I doubt that is possible or doable for most people. I couldn't get away with it, so I don't do it. Just my personal conviction.

I understand that some like having those fantasies, that they can even be addictive, but I have tried to put every addiction behind me. I can report success, except perhaps for chocolate (tastes good and does release those endorphins), but will at least have to cut back on that for the complexion and the figure.

Having a spouse helps avoid masturbation, training out has done it for me too in the past, it releases endorphins, will have to think about doing more of that again, prayer releases endorphins (people that pray a lot don't want as much sex - it is good if both partners train out equally and pray together) and just having a good time with friends releases endorphins too.

If masturbation is about countering stress and releasing endorphins, I think that there are a lot of alternatives out there.

Can someone who says masturbation is a sin please post a verse that says that it is?

I have never found it directly addressed in Scripture. I do agree that the underlying lust and self control issues are sin. However, the act itself is not a sin. How/why we use, or abuse, it is.

Yes. Quit it. You'll go blind...

Now if that were true I would have been very blind for a very long time :)

Seriosuly though in my opinion, and Ive stated this before in many differnt posts: touching yourself is just another bodily action like many other normal ones we have daily. Its lust that is the sin.

Unfortunatley lust is a very real and very danherous temptation in this world.
Perfect example: Saturday night I was watching some movie on cable and I can honestly say that the main actress was the worst actress i've ever seen and the movie had absolutely no plot...the camera work was atrocious and I couldnt tell you what the movie was about if I tried but still i sat there for 90+ mins and watched the entire movie...

Why? Its terrible to admitt but I watched it because the the main actress was cute...hot...attractive...etc. you pick the word.

Was this s sin...BAD Sumo says NO!... I was just watching a movie... but GOOD Sumo knows it was very bad because the only thing I was watching was her dancing around on the screen in teh rain spitting out horrible constructed sentences which made absolutely no sense...

Lust can be as addicting as the most powerful drug or alchol and equally as hard to battle... But I love my wife and I love Jesus so I try to use that love as a weapon against temptation like that movie.

Temptation and lust are what we should be worried about not maturbation...

i guess you have to define the word fornication, because if touching yourself falls under that then it's all over the bible..as wrong...also there is a verse that says something to the effect that some sins are sinning agaist yourself.. i think that may be one of those.. wish I knew where that verse was tho..

anyway my faith says it's sin..

moreJesus... I beleieve the verse you're thinking of is 1 Cor 6:18

It would take a rather loose interpretation of fornication, IMO, to include masturbation.

Again, it in itself is not wrong. If we have lust and self-control issues connected with it...then yes, it is sin.

can a person touch and not sin? Yes, absolutely. However, I think it is safe to say that in most cases it is done in sin due to the lust issues involved.

1Cr 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

clearpixel.gif

Mat 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

1Cr 10:6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

Here are the 2 remaining inexact matches:

Pro 6:25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

2Pe 2:10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous [are they], selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.

In a word yes masturbation is a sin.

You don't become Christlike by trying to force your flesh to do something you imagine Jesus would've done. You're not Jesus, and the only way to become more like him is to look at him.

Well Said--the WWJD is "good intentions" and we know where those lead.

I am a 41 YO male. I have been married to my wife for just short of 19 years. We love each other very much. However, due to medical problems she has, and all then meds she is on, she has no real sexual drive. Before all the medical problems we had an active love life. Now it may happen 4 times a year. So yes I do touch at times. And yes I do think back to our times TOGETHER, and wish it was still that way. So in all of your options, I am a sinner???? That to me don't seem fair.

Was just wondering if this is really how you all see it?

Thanks.
