  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Australia allowed Jewish hate to fester with cowardly appeasement and foolish immigration decisions

Much like the Minnesota Democrats, the Australian Labor Party is engaged in a cynical political ploy to pander to its Muslim bloc of voters, who outnumber Jews 7 to 1.
In September, Albanese flew off to the UN General Assembly and formally recognized Palestine as a state, joining the UK, Canada and France.
As President Trump said at the time, the stunt only emboldened Hamas at a crucial time and threatened to sabotage hostage releases.
Last year, during a Middle East diplomatic trip, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong visited Gaza but refused to visit the sites of the Oct. 7 massacres in Israel.
Australia Immigration Minister Tony Burke, who has been busy organizing visas for Gazans, was just busted having a secret meeting with officials to repatriate “ISIS brides” from Syria, asking them to make sure the media didn’t find out.

Countries around the world need to act.

I've purposely not posted about the Bondi tragedy. Primarily because...well, everyone here is still trying to come to terms with it. It's pretty difficult trying to make sense of any atrocity wherever it happens in the world. But when so many innocent people are gunned down literally at the end of your street...you can't flick to another channel or turn to the sports page and mentally switch off. Most people living in the area will know someone who has been directly affected by this because there are so many Jewish people living here. My wife recognised one woman that she worked with who was briefly on screen telling the reporter that she was searching for her husband. She had no idea whether he was safe or not. He wasn't. He was one of the dead.

And I didn't want to post about it because I knew that there are those in the forum who would just want to make political mileage out of the tragedy. I've been here long enough to expect it. I know not to expect any better.

So why don't you spare a few precious words joining with members of other faiths in condemning the attack and supporting unity: https://www.australianjewishnews.com/religious-leaders-condemn-bondi-terror-attack/

'Religious leaders across Australia have united in condemning the terrorist attack on a Chanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, expressing solidarity with the Jewish community and calling for national unity.

The Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) issued a statement declaring that “an attack on one community is an attack on us all” and affirming that “antisemitism, expressed through hate, harassment, and violence directed at the Jewish community, has no place in our society”.

“We will defy the division sought by those who seek to divide us,” ANIC said, urging Muslims to “reach out to their Jewish neighbours, friends, and colleagues to offer support and comfort during this difficult time”.

Don't you agree that it would be nice if people could just do that and keep the politically motivated garbage to themselves?

I agree with many others that the biggest problem in the world is a lack of recognition of evil. Very soon after this horrific event the prime minister of Australia and others in his party, joined by Congresswoman Omar in the U.S., were using the murders to push their politics for stricter gun control. Of course the vehicles in Christmas bombings are never blamed, the blind spot is that it is people, of real flesh and blood, often in radical Islam, who commit the terrorist acts. Because most Muslims are not violent is not a reason to pretend that a careful examination of people coming into a country where these groups have a strong presence is somehow racist or bigoted. It would easier to be silent about the culture of anti-semitism and anti-Christianity, but brave ones like Miranda Devine do speak out in order to try and prevent as many as possible such future events from happening.

So you didn't even try to make the effort. But again, I didn't expect anything else.

The damage to society needs to stop.
That's it? So many men, women and children gunned down and you can't even offer a thought for those dead and those still fighting for life? All you can offer is a blazingly unsubtle bumper sticker version of your first political diatribe?

Welcome to the standard post shooting debrief.
Predictably they used it to deflect from the real causes and push gun control. Devine nailed it in her article. "Unchecked antisemitism, cowardly appeasement, lax policing and foolish immigration decisions half a century in gestation have coalesced in multicultural southwestern Sydney, an hour’s drive from Bondi.
Add to the mix strict gun control — for law-abiding Australians, but not for the homegrown Islamist terrorists and gangbangers who only last month were shooting 50 rounds from an AK-47 at a house in the suburb of Casula, just 6 miles down Cowpasture Road from Bonnyrigg, where the alleged gunmen lived. ... It was the perfect recipe for violence to erupt."

Remaining silent against bigotry and hatred is not the answer. We need to discuss, not shut down discussions. You'll find these words at the Holocaust museum:

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

We must realise that while this is a freak event of untold tragedy for a western democracy in America these events are just another day.

Yes killings are a regular thing. Our governor, Walz, just issued an executive order which gets tougher on guns. Eventually, as technology advances, it will continually be easier for a terrorist to kill without guns. And, as can be seen in Chicago, gun control laws don't prevent criminals from killing.

A terrible thing to have happened. My condolences to your wife's colleague and all the bereaved and injured. Also praise for the brave man, who disarmed one of the gunmen, and for the police, medics etc., who dealt with the situation and its aftermath.

It must be very upsetting for those of you living in the area, as well. I understand about not being able to just turn to another channel. I hope the community can come together and support each other and the victims. I expect it will. I'm sorry that you and your wife have had the shock of this so close to home.

Don’t be silly. Of course they don’t when next door you can buy any gun you like.
