  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump promises $2000 tariff dividend to all Americans

I find this ironic. One accusation against Biden was that a stimulus program that he supported caused inflation. Now Trump wants to do it.

I would prefer to see tariffs used to reduce the deficit, particularly since the proposed stimulus is larger than what we’re getting from tariffs.

Now come on, you know that the tariffs have raised over 500 gazillion dollars. There's plenty of money for the sheep.

Just let the man do his work! It's working, and he is correct in what he says.

As of November 30, 2025, tariff revenue totaled $195 billion. If every family earning less than $150,000 received $2,000, it would cost the U.S. Treasury an estimated $350–$450 billion. I’d like to understand where the remaining funds would come from.

....and that assume the US Supreme Court does not decide the government has to return the collected tariffs.

Most of us received around $1800 in 2020/21.

One debit card with $1200 on it in 2020.

And second card with $600 in 2021.

And some received a third card with an additional $600.

So this sort of thing has happened before. Therefore there's no reason to become unhinged over it.

You've shown that sending money to Americans is not unusual; the government has done this before, including in 2009 under the Obama administration.

The question is whether the US government will borrow or print money, as before, to send stimulus checks. Total tariff revenue is less than half of what is needed for these payments.

As was said earlier in the thread, tariff money is magic and not subject to such silly things as basic arithmetic.

I think the main reason for complaints is that Trump is the one who's doing it.

The main complaint is that the haphazard tariffs were implemented to begin with.

I don’t care who is doing what.

I would like to understand the mathematical calculation involved. Could you explain how $195 billion could be allocated as $2,000 per American family earning less than $150,000 annually?

Not my department nor my idea. Like I said a couple of weeks ago in this thread; anyone who doesn't like it, can tear up their check.

It seems you're not here to discuss facts or logic, but rather to defend President Trump—even when his policies defy simple arithmetic. Your focus appears to be criticizing those who oppose him, instead of engaging in a rational, intellectual debate.

There is no mathematical way to explain how $195 billion could be distributed as $2,000 to each American family earning less than $150,000. However, if you wish to defend such irrational policy repeatedly, you are free to do so—after all, it is a free country!

Well when you consider that all of the people who are upset about it will of course refuse the money, it won't turn out to be so much.

Why don't you do the math first and show me how this works out, instead of considering what others might do? As I've mentioned, you haven't supported this policy with arithmetic, yet you continue to defend it.

Because you're trying to manipulate me into doing what you want. Therefore it's not going to happen, even if you spend the next five pages trying.

There is no need for manipulation in this matter. The answer is already well understood by both of us. The arithmetic calculation I am referencing cannot be completed. This fact is evident to you, to me, and to the rest of the American public. Nevertheless, you continue to defend President Trump's announcement regarding the distribution of $2,000 to every American family.
