  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

His status protects him. As is often the way with this kind of thing.
Hello! Yes that's true. Hence a royal family. If they were like the rest of us they wouldn't be royal. Kind Regards :)

I suspect these are really just normal people who are riding out a situation of unearned privilege and station.

Hello! Yes I can agree with that. But as long as they have that privilege and station they're entitled to use it. Kind Regards.

Yes, they are literally en titled to that. But my point was: they are in fact like us.

(Btw I was very close to that light house of yours many years ago when I took the ferry from Lochboisdale to Oban. Good memories.)

They’re just like the rest of us. They just pretend otherwise and have enough influence to get others to go along with the charade.

Allegedly Andrew Windsor, Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, Bill Gates, Peter Mandelson, Michael Jackson to name a few.

The hanging around should be seen as dubious in the court of public opinion, but it's not yet found to be criminal in an actual court. And these are allegations, not proven facts.

God Bless :)
Exactly, they are allegations.

They are just normal people but they have been born into positions of duty and responsibility, whether they like it or not.

They’re free to abdicate at any time.

True, as Harry has, but I think that most of them have too high a sense of duty to do so. Certainly the late queen had. I think the reason she carried on to the end is because she kept the vows she'd taken before God. She said that she would retire if the country wanted a Republic. I actually like having a monarchy as I think it's good to have a figurehead outside the political arena. I appreciate that not everyone feels that way though.

Duty? lol

Carried on to the end? Was the life of privilege, pampering and everyone groveling before her a burden?

...sooooo not any sort of real punishment
The titles come with land, houses and income don't they?
Thank you!

As an American, I’m not sure how monarchies or royal titles work ;)
Each place has its own rules (which I'm not interested enough to learn).
Thank you for this - his name just became "Entnonentno" in this house.
I have no idea what that means and Google was no help. Could you please explain?

I can imagine both the constraints and privileges of a "royal" childhood really messing with your head.

I made it up from Bradskii 's post #9 - "entitled non entity loses some titles. Oh no!" I am sorry you ended up trying to Google it, it is just an abbreviation of "entitled non entity oh no", and in future will be used by me as a humorous, and harmless disrepectful way to refer to A.Windsor.

Oh yes, I think it must have been a tremendous strain. Always having to be polite no matter how tired you are, never being free to go where you want, endless engagements, which you need to be informed about. and never being able to express your personal views on political matters. They lack the freedom most of us take for granted.

Raised by a Nanny who rewarded her for waiting to urinate, because in the middle of an official engagement they cannot just say "Hold on, I need a wee."

Oh, and having to have tea with every Prime Minister, every week, even if she could not stand the person, and while she does not have the vote.

Wait...does A.Windsor have the right to vote out of this?

It is the only thing they can do to begin the redeeming of their characters. The only (possible) good royal is an ex-royal.

That's not 100% clear year yet whether it's a true "loss" in a sense we'd think of it.

Getting relocated from one mansion to another out in the country side, and receiving a healthy annual stipend from the King isn't exactly a punishment.

Punishment for him would be "you get the boot from the Royal Lodge, and you'll have to go work at the Tesco and rent your own flat at your own expense"
