True, as Harry has, but I think that most of them have too high a sense of duty to do so. Certainly the late queen had. I think the reason she carried on to the end is because she kept the vows she'd taken before God. She said that she would retire if the country wanted a Republic. I actually like having a monarchy as I think it's good to have a figurehead outside the political arena. I appreciate that not everyone feels that way though.

Oh yes, I think it must have been a tremendous strain. Always having to be polite no matter how tired you are, never being free to go where you want, endless engagements, which you need to be informed about. and never being able to express your personal views on political matters.
