  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Great guitarists

There has been ongoing debate about who is the best guitarist with the likes of Jimmy Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray Vaughan ect. Who do you think is the greatest guitarist. I think all the above are great each in their own way.

But I am also interested in other guitarist not as well known who may even be better. Even Youtubers or buskers. Whoever. I love the guitar and not just lead but also rythm, bass and all sorts of stringed instruments. The Banjo is great as well.

In recent years I came across Derek Trucks. He is actually the nephew of the late Butch Trucks, drummer for the Allman Brothers. So he grew up around the band and that era of blues and rock guitarist.

Derek plays the slide guitar which I love and think of Gilmor in classic songs like the Great Gig in the Sky. Its great because not only is the note played but all sorts of notes inbetween are bent into each other. Its almost like a violin and yet he still comes back to classic blues rock guitar.

Enjoy.

I think that Al Dimeola is perhaps the greatest guitarist. I once saw him live and at the time he had a marimba player, Philippe Saisse? (After the Chick Corea era). Sometimes he would play in unison, and it was totally amazing. No Marimba but here is a sample. Look especially at the 4:45 mark.

Check out Guthrie Govan!
Man he is good. I like Rick Beato's videos on music and he knows what he is talking about. As he says Guthrie's inprovisation is second to none. Unbelievable. Even looking at his fingers. I wish I had fingers like that. They look like a giant Tarantula crawling up and down the guitar neck. His reach is unreal.

Like Rick says you can't even tell the technique because there isn't any. I watched his picking hand and he was just picking real fast of singular strings with his other the fingers on the other hand moving as fast to the picking. Sometimes its sounding like jazz and running all over the place but all sounding good. Thankyou great stuff.

Phil keagy is in my opinion the best christian guitarist;

Here is one that doesn't showcase his guitar, but I believe you believers who support the right to life will enjoy this.

Love Phil Keagy. I remember catching the train to my mums in the country and listening to his guitar work. It was great because he was a Christian and I thought how could a Christian play so good lol. I think his guitarwork actually sounded Christian lol. Just the way he placed the notes.

Another different style;

Paco de Lucia

Yep and I think the classic Spanish guitar was the orginal lead guitar. Great stuff. I have memories of westerns where theres a scene and the flamingo guitar is playing in the background. It makes the scene.

But also I think there are the middle eastern and Indian versions of stringed instruments like the Oud or Sitar that have a similar sound but perhaps are tuned differently. They have the flamingo sound. Its sort of a version of folk music but of a different pitch perhaps.
