You are forgetting the important direction of this chapter in Hebrews 12, it begins to instruct us how to not be weighed down by sin, (faithlessness) and to then run the race before us (in faith) with patience, and we do that BY LOOKNG TO JESUS who is the AUTHOR AND FINISHER OF OUR FAITH.Yes it is.
Holiness comes from GOD, not anything else. We don't create it ourselves.
Jesus for the joy set before Him, endured the cross, the shame, and endured such contradiction of sinners, and we are to CONSIDER HIM, or we will be wearied in our mind, and then we have not strove against sin, and have forgotten the EXHORTATION, speaking to us as children, to not despise the chastening of the Lord.
Look then at the verse we are reminded of, how Jesus was wounded and bruised ( JESUS WAS CHASTENED AND SCOURGED OF GOD.) for our transgressions, THE CHASTISEMENT OF OUR PEACE was upon Hi, with HIs stripes ( HIS CHASTISEMENT) we are HEALED. (HOLY.)
Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
