  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I wonder what will end up happening if the ACA at issue expires by default how will democrats take that as it appears that is their main concern.
Laying down on the high road crying about decorum, just like they take everything else.

Not achieving a desired outcome you’re working for is typical viewed as a loss.

Real Americans. Who Matter. Like Marjorie Taylor Greene's children.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene breaks with the GOP on Obamacare, calling to avoid premium hikes

Greene said she's "not a fan" of Obamacare [oh yes you apparently are] but complained that her "own adult children’s insurance premiums for 2026 are going to DOUBLE" if Congress ignores the issue.

She goes on to make clear that this has nothing to do with giving illegals healthcare. Because it doesn't.
Branding the affordable care act "obamacare" has been a brilliant move by the GOP.

Almost as clever as branding the federal estate tax, that only applies to estates larger than $14 million, as the death tax.

I think Trump supporters will have a bigger issue with it. If you do more research, you would realize a lot of Conservatives/ states need Obama care. Do you know that the United States is bailing out Argentina. 40 billion dollars. And they want to take medical insurance away from America's. Trump is putting other countries first, not our country. If Obama care is gone. Do you really think Trump is going to come up with a better plan.

Nearly half of rural hospitals in the red, 432 vulnerable to closure, report finds

The portion of rural hospitals operating with negative margins has dipped slightly from last year, though the number of facilities most likely to close has also crept up, healthcare advisory services firm Chartis found.
The group’s latest report on the state of rural healthcare providers found that 46% of rural hospitals are operating at a loss while 432 hospitals are deemed to be “vulnerable to closure.” This comes as 18 rural hospitals either closed or shifted to an operating model excluding inpatient care, per cited data from the Sheps Center for Health Services Research.
For comparison, the 2024 edition of the same report outlined 50% of rural hospitals operating in the red and 418 hospitals at risk of closure.

The right truly are the masters of branding. The GOP holds all centers of power of the federal government and their leader is on record saying that a shutdown is always the fault on the president, and yet they immediately labeled this the "Schumer Shutdown".

I thought it was the "Epstein Shutdown" or maybe it is only the current "Epstein House Recess".

I wonder how they define a rural hospital? I mean for example, here in GA where I live we have two hospitals the next county over one public one private yet our county has less than 20k at the last census, several counties around us would I believe be considered rural but the county at issue has probably more than 5x the population of this county ( despite the fact that land area wise this county is much bigger).

The Republicans have a majority in the Senate, sure. But the filibuster makes it so that you need 60 votes to pass most bills, and since the Republicans don't have 60 votes (it's very rare for one party to have that many), the Democrats are using it to cause the stop the advancement of the bill even though if it was actually voted on, the Republicans would be able to pass it.

I think "Schumer Shutdown" is overly simplistic, but at least structurally the Democrats are the ones causing the shutdown because they're utilizing the filibuster whereas if it just went to a simple vote, the bill would pass and end the shutdown.

Considering that the GOP invented modern obstructionism in US politics, their cries of protest ring exceedingly hollow.

The problem with that argument is Senate Rule XXII, which governs debate and the filibuster, can be changed at anytime by a simple majority. The Republicans have actually recently done this, changing the rules to allow them to easier approve multiple nominees at a time. They could easily change the rules to require only 50 votes to call the question for C.R.s if they wanted to. They have just decided it's not important enough to do so.
