  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don`t think a priest and an exorcist would just go lie about it straight to everyones face like that. You should try contact Fr Rippberger about it
He won't contact the good priest, psychologist, philosopher and exorcist. He'll just slander him. Sad.
Then he’s a liar.
See.

Not slander if he has lied. But I haven’t yet found where he himself has made any claim.

It’s been claimed in his behalf in this thread. But not by him oddly enough.

The question is how could you possible know that he lied?

G: "He said on an interview he was [a psychologist]." ... L: "Then he’s a liar."

The essence of lying consists in putting into words the very opposite of what one really thinks—the opposite of one's own state of mind. One cannot know what another really thinks. One may say that another is mistaken ... but not that another is a liar.

Interesting to note the etymology of the word "psychology" -- the science of the soul.

I have the video black and white proof. I heard him say it. Anyone doubting should see it or contact him themselves instead of the other. It is not right. not what the bible say either an exorcist risk their lives daily and are under attack daily from the enemy and talk about how important to confess and to live holy I do not think such a person would risk just lying

it becomes very straightforward when a person tells to a whole world God knows how many people see his video what experience they have. sitting and telling the world basically he is educated and decide mental health cases vs spiritual issues on regular basis. again an exorcist is required to live holy or they are toast in their work. not much to argue. ask him. find the video too. case closed

Perhaps I missed the post where you provided a link to the video where he supposedly makes the claim you have reported. Could you point me to it. If you have not posted it, could you please do so. As the one making the assertion your responsibility is to support it, or withdraw it. To do otherwise isn't "fighting a dead horse", but burying it secretly in the desert.

Where does he say it? It’s not listed with his other credentials.
Chad Ripperger, Ph. D. is a theologian, psychologist, Thomistic philosopher, and author of a number of traditional Catholic books. Father Ripperger was originally ordained in 1997, as a member of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP).

Straight from information about him on the Internet. What you have done is read and quoted those who say he isn't, when here's the proof. But, we are also called to go to the person in question.... And not accuse falsely..

You made a claim and you need to support it. Can you link to where he (not you) make the claim that he is a psychologist?

This is the bio from his site.

Fr. Ripperger was born in Casper, Wyoming in 1964. He earned two bachelor’s degrees, in theology and philosophy, from the University of San Francisco; and two master’s degrees, one in philosophy from the Center for Thomistic Studies of the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, and another in theology from Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell, Connecticut. He joined the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter(FSSP), which sent him to Rome to receive his doctorate in philosophy from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross.

By his own admission he’s not a psychologist.

But it does not say that he is a psychologist. Unless I missed it? As far as I can see he has not even claimed to be a psychologist. Can you show me where he (or anyone) has?

You have made a claim but a claim is not evidence. You cannot simply claim something is true and not expect people to check whether what you say is true or false.

I checked. I looked this guy up. Nowhere does he make those claims.

YOU do but seem unable to give reason for why you think it is true. Asking me to verify with the gentleman in question whether YOUR claim about him is true is asinine.

St. Paul, in 2 Corinthians 4:4 speaks of "the god of this age" (ὁ θεὸς τοῦ αἰῶνος).
Is the word 'god' used the same way in our culture as it was in St. Paul's? Does it have the same meaning? When people hear the word 'god' do they think of general spiritual powers such as the angels and demons, or do they think of the one God?

That'd depend on who you spoke to. The ancient cosmopolitan landscape of the ancient world had Pagans, Jews, and then there were God-fearers (Gentiles who were Judaism-curious), among a litany of other religious peculiarities.

When St. Paul speaks of "the god of this age"' he's clearly not talking about God. But he is using "god" in some rhetorical fashion, and he's even (apparently) using it to speak of the devil; ha-Shaytan, the antagonistic spiritual creature whose control over the present times is part of why the present way of things is fundamentally broken. Rooted in the larger story of creation's fall through Adam and Eve, the bondage to sin and death that ensued, and the deep need of Divine Rescue through the Messiah; of which His death and resurrection is the cause of the devil's ruin, creation's redemption, and human reconciliation with God.

In fact the word has a significantly different semantic range in our two different cultures, which is why your objection to the OP is so poor. If we used the word 'god' the same way St. Paul used the word 'god' (theos) 2,000 years ago your objection would hold. But we don't.
