  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I didn't know or follow Charlie but I thought this video is quite interesting-and surprising. And I think it's awesome that a woman is esteemed and venerated to a higher degree than any other strictly human figure, any other saint, by Christianity- as the churches which have their origins in antiquity did and continue to do. For them there's no higher human hero/heroine and model for our faith. Luther loved and venerated her as well. Thank you, Charlie!

Thank you for the video. The views that he expressed were the same views that all the Protestants that I have known and have read agree with.

Hopefully Mary interceded for him with Her Son. I can't believe she wouldn't have given his inclination towards her.
And just where is there a VERSE where Mary has interceded for anyone just one TIME. as I can not fine. one in

the bible ??

That is not an intercession. She would have had to have said something like, "Please give them some wine," for it to have been an intercession.
Mary's intercession so to speak was saying "Do whatever He tells you to do".

Mary's intercession so to speak was saying "Do whatever He tells you to do".
She said that to the servants. Was she interceding with them? Surely not. She was giving them an instruction.

No I was making a point. "Do whatever He tells you do" is putting total focus on Christ and obeying Him. And do whatever He tells you do includes the numerous times Jesus told us how to pray, what to pray for, and most importantly who to pray to. So with all this instruction from Christ Himself on prayer, plus instruction from John and Paul, there's absolutely no reason whatsoever that we should be praying in any other way. Paul makes it perfectly clear that the Holy Spirit is our intercessor in prayer. Our intercessor and comforter. Basically they replaced the role of the Holy Spirit in prayer with Mary.

Sorry I misunderstood. In the context, she was saying that tey should do what Jesus told them regarding the lack of wine, that is, fill the huge jars with water.

Right what's being called Mary's intercesson is really Mary saying to obey Christ. Not He will do whatever Mary asks Him to do, but rather to do whatever Christ tells you to do.

I think you and I are applying different meanings to "intercession." I see it as meaning praying on behalf of somebody else.

Yeah, I do too. You're just not following what I've been saying even though we're both on the same page.

The term "so to speak" is used to highlight the fact that one is describing something in an unusual or metaphorical way.

But I'll reword it:

Mary did not in any way whatsoever interceed, reather she said "Do whatever He tells you to do". Which is not intercession.

Better?
I must apologise, in that case. I clearly misunderstood, and thought we were disagreeing. Thanks for taking the trouble to explain.

I confess that I had never heard of Charlie Kirk prior to his death and even now do not know much about him. What I find curious and perplexing regarding the life and death of Mr. Kirk is that he is being marketed by the Far Right as a martyr not only of political freedom of speech but of (Protestant) Christianity. From what I know, he was, assuredly, a Catholic Christian who made lengthy speeches supporting the Far Right political narrative which is tinged with elements of Christianity. That he was a martyr of any sort is open to debate and I would be quite dumbfounded if he were to be declared a Catholic saint.

Charlie Kirk's pastor spoke at the ceremony, he is the pastor of Godspeak Calvary Chapel which is an Evangelical church. However, he seemed to be leaning toward Catholic beliefs after studying the history of Christianity, realizing what was lost by not venerating Mary and showing great respect for Apostolic tradition.

Thank you for the clarification. It is much appreciated.

I reject your characterisation of conservatives as "far right". It seems that some people have gone so far to the left that anything towards the centre is considered by them to be "far right"
