A good bit of pearl clutching in the media leading up to it and in the news this morning. The reporting has been as vapid as usual. Waiting for all the "It's MAGA's fault!" comments here this morning. Now? Not a peep out of the media or Democrats because they are rhe ones shutting it down.
When 60 votes are needed, then the 53 GOP Senators cannot do it by themselves.
And why? Because many people will not be able to afford insurance. Like me. Here is the breakdown when I decided to start my own business:Are you ignoring the facts that Senator Chuck Schumer and the Democratic Party Senators are refusing to pass the bill to fund the government? When 60 votes are needed, then the 53 GOP Senators cannot do it by themselves.
Right. They need at least some Democrats to agree with what they are doing. That's the point. Are you ignoring the facts that Senator Chuck Schumer and the Democratic Party Senators are refusing to pass the bill to fund the government? When 60 votes are needed, then the 53 GOP Senators cannot do it by themselves.
So you talk and meet somewhere in the middle.Instead of a simple bipartisan CR. The Democrats want a 1.7 trillion dollar spending increase.
I thought the Ds just want current ACA spending to remain at current levels....?Instead of a simple bipartisan CR. The Democrats want a 1.7 trillion dollar spending increase.
Remind me again who won the House, Senate, White House and has a majority control of the SCOTUS?A good bit of pearl clutching in the media leading up to it and in the news this morning. The reporting has been as vapid as usual. Waiting for all the "It's MAGA's fault!" comments here this morning.
How about the shutdown Trump “was proud to take credit for” when he was last president?Let's see if there's a grand production made out of this one. The one back when Obama was president saw automated web sites shut down.
Well yeah, but the Rs can call it an "increase" because that spending comes off the books at the end of the year.I thought the Ds just want current ACA spending to remain at current levels....?
Nope.Tough. Does no one know how to work out a deal both sides can agree upon?
I wouldn't worry about Trump giving backpay to furloughed workers. They aren't important enough to him.First, the government has had years to correct the imbalance of funding. They have raised the debt level 78 times since 1960.
So everyone's at fault, it is not Schumer and the 44 democrats in the Senate. If there is a moral high ground the one that comes the closest is the sole conservative Sen. Rand Paul. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/05/25/rand-paul-debt-ceiling-hike-00369740
I think the rest of the GOP too deserve some blame because they have not addressed the 44 democratic senators concerns. They represent about half of America and nearly every large city. Trump's problem is that he extended the tax cuts, increased spending in the military and homeland security and wants the cuts to fall on the poor who already are faced with higher inflation due to the tariffs.
I have a big problem too with why the government pays the back salaries of all Federal Employees when they shut the government down. Like someone in the private sector, they need to face the realities and file for unemployment, not get backpay for the days they do not work. The 2018-2019 shutdown - "According to the Congressional Budget Office, the shutdown cost the government $3 billion in back pay for furloughed workers, plus $2 billion in lost tax revenues due to reduced tax evasion compliance activities by the Internal Revenue Service, and a smaller amount of lost fees such as for visits to national parks, for a total of about $5 billion.
Indeed. The republicans who had no problem with the thousand upon thousands of jobs being cut from the federal workforce by DOGE and the president, taking a metaphorical chainsaw to the government, now want to shed their crocodile tears over all the people that will be affected by this shutdown.Nope.
The Republicans want a shutdown so that they can restructure departments and cut jobs, much easier to do during a shutdown. Many of the non-essential workers won't be coming back.
You should let them know - Schumer is the one who publicly stated he wouldn't budge. So you talk and meet somewhere in the middle.
That’s how negotiations are supposed to work.
No - they want Medicare for illegals reestablishedI thought the Ds just want current ACA spending to remain at current levels....?
He wouldn't have to worry about back pay if Schumer didn't try to hold the country hostage and really not care about those workers, woman and children and the elderly not getting the funds they need.I wouldn't worry about Trump giving backpay to furloughed workers. They aren't important enough to him.
Schumer said he wouldn't sign the Republican plan. He was open to negotiation. Trump canceled one negotiating meeting and the last minute one didn't have much hope. But now Trump is showing signs of negotiating on healthare. You should let them know - Schumer is the one who publicly stated he wouldn't budge.
It was never established, so it can't be reestablished. No - they want Medicare for illegals reestablished
Bill Clinton cut almost 400K government jobs.Indeed. The republicans who had no problem with the thousand upon thousands of jobs being cut from the federal workforce by DOGE and the president, taking a metaphorical chainsaw to the government, now want to shed their crocodile tears over all the people that will be affected by this shutdown.
Sure I’ll tell him when I see him lol.You should let them know - Schumer is the one who publicly stated he wouldn't budge.
There is no Medicare for illegals but besides that… I thought they were all being deported, so what does it matter? No - they want Medicare for illegals reestablished
Oh like how Trump didn’t care until he got funding for his wall that never happened. I guess it’s only ok for the GOP to use a shutdown as a bargaining chip.He wouldn't have to worry about back pay if Schumer didn't try to hold the country hostage and really not care about those workers, woman and children and the elderly not getting the funds they need.

Only in the sense that they want to restore the original funding streams whose termination forced the creation of the support fund. They want to claw back the funding for rural hospitals:
