  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A lot of churches are filled up with what Jesus called the "children of the kingdom"

but one must be born again to enter.

Generations later, things are not so straightforward.
only God can do it. keep on pressing on, a willingness to abstain from sin

In 1995, psychologist and science journalist Daniel Goleman "published a book introducing most of the world to the nascent concept of emotional intelligence.” And 30 years later, these 5 components remain vitally important:

1. Self-awareness
2. Self-regulation
3. Motivation
4. Empathy
5. Social skills

Emotional intelligence is obviously crucial for anyone who wants success in their marriage, family, career, and friendships. But is there an overlap with your spiritual life? In other words, does spiritual growth increase emotional intelligence?

Continued below.
yes because if you have little to no empathy you don`t even think you are doing anything wrong. Even if you repent you could or many would just do it again. Or deliberately hurt others. Or cannot control it. so yes. you cannot really proceed further and become a hypocrite.

What is the human spirit and how is it different from soul, in your view?

About the easiest way to explain it would be look at animals. They are a body with a soul. They experience different emotions, pain ect. but their thoughts and habits are on an instinctive level. When GOD breathed His spirit into Adam and Eve, they become "living souls" and were supremely intelligent.

When we are regenerated our minds becomes more of a database. Our human spirit is able to know truth and able to see-through situations that we were not able to with our fallen spirit before. It can tend to lead more intelligently than our mind, which is a good thing.

It's hard to separate that portion of us since it seems to be intertwined quite a bit with our soul, but once we are born again, that portion of us becomes way more prominent in our lives, even more so if we get filled with The Holy Spirit.

The Trichotomy View (Body, Soul, and Spirit) This perspective, supported by passages like 1 Thessalonians 5:23 ("may your spirit and soul and body be preserved whole"), sees a distinct role for each part:

    • Body:
The physical, outward part of a person that interacts with the natural world.
    • Soul:
The center of a person's individual consciousness, including the mind, emotions, will, memories, and thoughts. It is what makes a person unique.
    • Spirit:
The deepest, innermost part of a person, which functions as a divine connection. It is through the spirit that one can know and communicate with God and understand spiritual truths.

I just read another article recently that stated emotional intelligence is what fuels spiritual growth. Something to the effect that emotions are like a spiritual compass. Emotional intelligence intersects with spirituality.

Spiritual growth comes from Spirit ie GOD.

The more spiritual you are the less emotional you are. I know that seems to go against the grain in ways, but Jesus was very detached emotionally from situations 98% of the time. I know He cried once, but the rest of the time He was very detached emotionally.

If we are truly growing in The Lord Jesus and seeking Christ-likeness, we will exhibit the same sort of detachment over time. Jesus becomes everything, and the world is frowned upon, even considered filthy.

I would disagree with your AI summary in an area. Our individual consciousness is our spiritual being, not our mind.

So he calmly turned the tables over and cleared the temple? Somehow had an unemotional agony in the garden? Not if he was fully human.

But you are right that detachment is also required. Self giving, self emptying, even austerity.

Denial of self does include our emotional desires and attachments.

The more spiritual we become the less our mind and emotions will be in control. There is a sort of fight for dominance inside of us that we can experience as we mature spiritually. It is a part of Christ-likeness.
