• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The words of Jesus about man not living by bread alone require a lot of stretching to make them mean: "The also need entertainment to live." The context of those words is His temptation in the wilderness:

“And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’”” (Lu 4:3-4 NKJV)

He didn't say: "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by entertainment as well.’”
I would say it depends on if they do it all the time, I mean, reasonable things like some entertainment(healthy one) and some other things that are not JUST food and roof, we do need to some extent. tatoos no

that`s beautiful. I love irish music. (not far away from there)
what a difference from a lot of the music videos we see today.
I wish more could do like that
the bible say one does not despite the one stealing because he is hungry, although he still bears the burden. That means after how I understand it, mercy

Leviticus 19:9-10.

The 120th mitzvah is that we are commanded to leave over (for the poor) the corner of (a field of) grain (a tree of) fruit, etc,

"Leave them over (for the poor and the stranger)"

Though is said only to apply in Eretz Yisrael, there is a Rabbinical requirement that even outside Eretz Yisrael it applies.

People may say," What is yours is yours, what is mine is mine".

A pious person would say, "What is yours is yours, what is mine is yours too."

Food for thought.

What I meant was that Jesus was not talking about those "optional extras", like entertainment, sport, etc., when He said that man shall not live by bread alone.

Yes, we need love, clothing companionship, etc. That makes no difference to what Jesus was talking about when He said than man shall not live by bread alone. He went on to explain what He meant: "but by every word of God." (see Luke 4:4)

As long as the world keeps us involved, people see little reason for introspect or spiritual nourishment. The further we get from that, the more unstable the world becomes. Ironic that the things we think we need are actually the things that are dragging us down.

Depending on how it is used. As with everything. There is also a difference if the person want to or not, if they are a christian or not.

Pride and conceit. Selfishness springs from those modes of behavior often.

True but 'self' was a product of the Garden, the original sin we are meant to overcome. Self works great in a self oriented world, but is of no use in the Kingdom.
