  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dandelions are actually edible, as long as they haven't been treated with herbicide. They are consumed similar to any other leafy green vegetable, and have similar nutrition compared to other greens.

I haven't tried any dandelion greens, but I haven't really seen any for sale or growing wild. They don't really grow in Florida.
Dandelions are a mild diuretic - the French name for them translates as "pee in bed".

Then I'm baffled by the purpose of the question in the OP. If a decrease in the cost of groceries is known to be unlikely, then why ask if it's dropped?

As to minimum wage, it's a simple observation that costs are passed along to the customer. Want it increased? Fine. Just be aware that the cost have to be made up somewhere.
Except from corporate profits.

Unlike government, businesses can't operate at a loss. Just ask Woolworths; Pan Am; Eastern Airlines; TWA; Blockbuster; Compaq; Montgomery Ward...

I agree that HyVee is expensive overall, but they do have incredibly low prices on some things if you pay attention to their sales, and if you stick to their store brand then their stuff can be really cheap. Unfortunately for me the nearest ALDI's is fifty miles away, so I'm stuck with HyVee, Fareway, Walmart online, and Amazon.

During Covid Walmart would ship just about anything, even bread. Now they don't ship much at all, and even then you usually have to buy in bulk to get them to ship. But their customer service is unrivaled.
Yeah, hyvee has a few sales occasionally. Fareway is nice, too.

The Trump Tariffs are doing a real number on coffee in the UK. It’s really frustrating how much his idiotic economic whims have such a far reaching effect.

Luckily I’m pretty well heeled so it doesn’t really matter but it’s still annoying. It must be tough for the less fortunate though.

FYI the coffee thing.

I was reading that the coffee bean harvest in Brazil took a BEATING this year due to global warming and that that is responsible for approximately 30% of the price increase in the US...

Certainly it's affecting the price in UK as well.

OK, I'll bite.

How do Trump tariffs raise coffee prices in the UK? With the US buying less from Brazil, prices should be lower than they would be without the tarffs

Uhhhhhh..I'm not arguing they are. I said that the harvest is likely affecting UK prices as well

Thankfully I loaded up on coffee last year in Italy and this year in Panama and Costa Rica.

Good luck to them! That is a horrible strategy. Others will sell lots more. UK prices should come down soon as coffee from othe countries is more available.

I suggest that the higher prices are due to the scarcity die to climate change.

If the supply were the same as before the tariffs, there is no way that Brazil could help themselves by increasing prices.
