It does read well in that it is his autobiography. He freely admits his unrighteousness. Like all Christians, he is now relying on a far better righteousness - the perfect righteousness of his Saviour.

I agree but his faith came whey after the moon landing and as @bèlla said earlier NASA make them sign an NDA. So who knows what Charles said is the whole truth as before becoming a Christian he was prone to greed & money.

Yes, but surely what Strong in Him and others have been saying (for many months now) is that Charles Duke became a Christian after the moon landings, and since his conversion, he has given his Christian testimony, including the wonders he saw on and from the moon. Pointing to his sins before becoming a Christian as evidence that he cannot be relied on to speak the truth in his Christian testimony just seems wrong to me.

You cannot break an NDA and it wouldn’t matter if he came to faith. It’s legally enforced and may not be tried in court as you’d expect but a tribunal. He’s under obligation to remain silent about his experiences at NASA he’s not permitted to share with the public. Christian or not. He would put himself and his loved ones at risk to do otherwise. This isn’t your average job or employer and ignoring that is unwise.

Most people have never explored the requirements for working at NASA or government agencies for that matter. You don’t have access to sensitive things without security clearance and signing agreements. When discoveries are made they make them sign an NDA. Getting to the truth isn’t as simple as some suggest without serious consequences.

I don’t believe NASA exists for the purpose it says or much that comes from the agency. It’s not about conspiracy theories but understanding how power works which keeps me skeptical. Our rulers aren’t benevolent. It’s impossible to judge what you see and hear without addressing that beforehand.

It was a time about 20 years after WWII and before we actually pulled out of Vietnam when America was though of as invincible and this shinning can do no wrong country. Who was pitted against the great communist bad guy (Russia, etc....).
So there is no telling what Government and NASA was able to convince people who were brought into the know. To do and say to keep America as the super invincible, can do no wrong county.

I mean you are asked to die for your country, why not lie for your country.
I wonder what all those dead in Iraq, Afghanistan would think about now, knowing what is known about that time in Americas history

This is a good example of what I mentioned yesterday about belief and its dangers. If the word of God has taken root and new information becomes available. It would compel us to revisit our positions and make adjustments where required. Because truth is our aim. But when we develop attachments we’re less likely to do so. I see it a lot in christian circles and we’re becoming more gullible and prone to deception by the year.

It’s a non disclosure agreement. They’re legal vehicles designed to prevent the person from sharing information the other would prefer to remain undisclosed. They hold up in court save where crimes are concerned. In that case you’re allowed to talk and testify. They’re frequently employed by wealthy and powerful persons or entities.

How could Duke have given his testimony without mentioning the moon ? Being so very well known it would have been impossible for him not too have.

If he hadn't really been to the moon, and if, as you suggest, his family would have been in danger if he said he hadn't, then as a Christian, he would not have mentioned it, rather than tell lies. The very fact that you have said that he mentions in his autobiography how he used to live before becoming a Christian shows that he speaks the truth.

To pretend to be half way to the moon and then to post this picture of the earth from the blacked out capsule window when the stop button popped back up on the recording showing full sunlight in the cabin is real deception at it's best.

An NDA is not for life but typically for a period of time after leaving the employer. My father in law had a NDA and it expired a year after he left NASA.

How do you know that astronauts sign an NDA? And even if Charles Duke had one the moon trip would not have been part of it given that it was public news.
