  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello Everyone!
My name is Scarlett, im 21 from London. I have been a 'Christian' all my life but only in the past year have i read the word and truely had Faith is Jesus Christ.
I am not very consecutive with my studies and tend to 'forget' to read my bible or am to 'tired' to pray due to my busy schedule. I used to go to Church but after a couple of months i didn't quite align with their beliefs and it was giving more 'Cult' then church.

I want to be on fire for the Lord everyday and learn from you guys in this community, please do PM me or reply to this thread and lets discuss!

My previous church was evangelical but i dont quite know which denom i would put myself in to, all i know is it is not catholic.

Welcome! What's their beliefs in particular that didn't align with yours?

I was Evangelical and Pentecostal as well and now, no denomination. Still on the lookout for a church. Ironically, on Sundays, I hang out with a group of skaters who does humanitarian work. I feel closer to the Lord hanging out with the group than going to church.

Glad to hear the Lord is working in your heart. There are lots of deceptions out there even from so-called Christians, so you have to set your heart on learning to hear from God yourself. Advice on a church to me is one that has love toward each other and love and reverence in their worship to God. Secondly, I look for churches that some intensity. That they give an altar call, pray for the sick, have the gifts of the spirit operating or at least are open to them, and have other ways to reach and engage the congregation.

Some might say that is my personal preference. It is, but it aligns too with
1 Corinthians 2:4-5 (KJV)
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Of course you need to make your time with God a habit and find a rhythm.

Colossians 3:16 (KJV)
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Of course the most successful Christians will have time for teaching, praying, fellowship, praise and service incorporated into their life. It may seem burdensome with all that but as the saying "you do not have time, not to pray," goes, when you fail to be consistent it ends up hurting more than helping when you miss your time for God. That is my biggest regret in my life. Too much wasted time on things that meant so little or even were negative.

Ephesians 5:15-16 (NASB)
15 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise,
16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil.

If you have want to look at a good teacher that goes through the entire bible in order. I suggest the late David Pawson's, (a brit,) "unlocking the New Testament" Unlocking the New Testament

God bless as your path becomes brighter and brighter in Christ!

A warm welcome to our friendly forum! On fire for the Lord is a catchy phrase; what does it mean for you?
Thankyou! On fire for the Lord mean to me that i feel this over whelming feeling in my soul of just the want and need for Jesus. It consumes my days and reminds me to go about my day respecting the lord. Somedays i do not feel this feeling and go through seasons in my life of just coldness.

i Honestly feel you on this one!
The church itself was dedicated to a certain group of people in the Uk. The church itself had some scandals along the way of many of the men coming out and preaching that "Autistic kids are demons" and there were many times where Preachers would perform baptisms in a very disrespectful manor and dress in tracksuits to perform said baptisms.
When i did attend this church it all felt very 'performance' like, when we were asked to pray everyone would pray out loud and some even talking in tongues, to me it didn't feel right. Prayer is a sacred moment of pure isolation from the world and a moment to connect with God but your thoughts and prayers would be interrupted by some lady behind you shouting her prayers out loud.

Welcome to CF!

I like your phrasing, "Prayer is a sacred moment of pure isolation from the world and a moment to connect with God." I hope you are able to find a church community that supports you in finding these sacred moments.

I've been in a church like that. Back then it was called "Church of Praise". A huge megachurch with churches all over the world. It's probably going by a different name now.

Their "prayer time" felt like hell and if you prayed quietly, others would lay hands on you and pray for your deliverance!

It was very intrusive and cult-like, yet it was a huge megachurch. Fortunately, there are Christian churches that's not like that. They probably stopped laying hands on quiet people now but still, it was unBiblical to pray loudly with lots of other people.

It's good that you know your Bible because what they're doing is the wrong way to pray! If you don't have a lot of time to read the Bible, you can just focus on the "Synoptic Gospels" for now. You may read them repeatedly the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. It changes in meaning each time you read them and helps you tell apart the bad churches from the good ones and there's more bad churches these days than the good ones!
