  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Except they can't, because Fox News is a cable channel, whereas ABC is broadcast. The FCC has a lot more authority in regards to regulating content on broadcast channels than it does cable channels.
For now...

The whole point is that if a new person comes into power, that can absolutely change.

Who says they are? Just because there are alot of black pro basketball players tells us little about what the average black guy can or can't do when it comes to basketball.
I guess I could agree, but there is such a thing as the law of averages, which isn't an actual law, but is still a thing.
Basketball is a cheap sport to play, especially in urban areas that don't have alot of space available for other athletic opportunities. That's not a coincidence, that's by design. And being a good basketball player is a path to getting a college education, by playing for a college team, you might even get a scholarship- so there's alot of incentive to play basketball well, possibly getting into college even if you don't have the money by other means. None of that has anything to do with the ability to fly an airplane.
Every sport can be cheap to play. You don't need regulation sizes or professional equipment to pick up the basics of a game. Kids play hockey on residential streets.
Kirk's comments about black pilots being sus were the kind of stupid racism that shows that Kirk had an inherently low opinion of black people. You don't get anywhere near an airplane if you're incompetent, it just doesn't work that way.
He never said black pilots were sus. He said DEI is sus.

They're not. White guys are obviously so much better because there's so many more playing it than black guys. Oh, wait. I guess you mean in the US. Which is just the opposite. So, let me see. Then I guess that Australian white guys are better than your average US white guy. Isn't that odd...

Not to mention that native Americans must be absolutely useless at it.
Hold on, give me a minute, let me check something...Oh, African Australians make up 1.3% of the population. ^_^ I'd be surprised if ya'll have one black guy who can make a jump shot.
Your question is no more than Kirk's implication that white guys are better flyers because there's so many more of them.
He never made that implication. You're reading something into it from your own heart.

Not every sport. I used to play golf years ago and it wasn't the cheapest hobby. In fact it's such a big problem that people in the industry are acutely aware how it's slowly killing golf, especially as building houses is often more profitable than running a golf course.

Most white guys probably play golf about as well as most black guys, which is to say... not at all. And if white people do play golf, they typically play very poorly, nowhere close to pro level.

He never said black pilots were sus. He said DEI is sus.

He said if he saw a black pilot, he would question their ability just because they are black. That's what he said in not so many words.

There are no "DEI hires" in aviation. It just doesn't happen. They spent hours learning basic physics, flight envelopes, and emergency procedures they'll probably never need on simulators and trainers before they are even allowed anywhere near a real airliner.

I don't think Kirk though honestly was this stupid. He just had a big mouth and liked saying shocking things that made his audiences soft racism feel affirmed.

Okay, gee I misspoke. Not every sport. I'm sure yacht racing is not cheap.

I don't know about that, but It's well known that the military lowers it's standards for females, and studies have shown that unit effectiveness suffers for it.

Yes, it was a fatuous argument. I'm glad it wasn't too subtle to grasp. Now you can check out the percentages for golf and CEOs and surgeons and ballet etc.
He never made that implication. You're reading something into it from your own heart.
It's the corollary of the point he did actually make. Hey, a black pilot! Are we safe? Because gee, he might have got those 4 stripes just because he's black, not because he's a good pilot.

And I'll point this out yet again. Kirk wasn't an idiot. He knew that the implication was bat guano crazy. You'd really have to be an imbecile to think that an airline would drop their standards for minorities in regard to hiring pilots. So I'll let you give us your explanation of why he said what he did.

The standards are not lowered in any way that would affect combat performance.

Women and men don't differ in their ability to tolerate G-Forces, which is a big consideration in flying a combat fighter plane. Assuming that a given woman is tall enough to fit into the cockpit of a particular aircraft, there's no physical reason she can't perform that role. Shorter, stockier people actually have an advantage in handling G-Forces compared to taller, thinner people.

If they were that good, then why aren't they still alive?
How many WWII veterans do you know? At least one of them, 101 years old is still around.
AURORA, Colo. (AP) — With members of a trailblazing Black Air Force unit passing away at advanced ages, efforts to remain true to their memory carry on despite sometimes confusing orders from President Donald Trump as he purges federal diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

Col. James H. Harvey III, 101, is among the last few airmen and support crew who proved that a Black unit — the 332nd Fighter Group of the Tuskegee Airmen — could fight as well as any other in World War II and the years after.

He went on to become the first Black jet fighter pilot in Korean airspace during the Korean War, and a decorated one after 126 missions. He was one of four Tuskegee Airmen who won the first U.S. Air Force Gunnery Meet in 1949, a forerunner of today’s U.S. Navy “Top Gun” school.

“They said we didn’t have any ability to operate aircraft or operate heavy machinery. We were inferior to the white man. We were nothing,” Harvey said. “So we showed them.”

Shortly after Trump’s January inauguration, the Air Force removed new recruit training courses that included videos of the Tuskegee Airmen.

Eventually public outcry led to a reversal of that decision, with the Trump administration arguing that they didn't really mean to do it. It's discouraging that 80 years after black airmen showed that they could fly with the best of them, some racist celebrity was still blathering about being worried if his flight had a black pilot.

I used the words "common sense" because the person I was disagreeing with used those same words, so which one of us is wrong?
What kind of common sense are we talking about? Midwestern farmer common sense, or Berkley liberal common sense?

Right, this isn't about facts in the usual sense, but signaling to a group that you get their grievances.

This is more like Eric Cartman in that South Park episode where he singing a lament about the "minorities are the authorities... in my water park". It's mean to signal grievance. "Look at the world now days, how messed up it is... where black people can fly airplanes!" It's not meant to withstand critical analysis at face value, it's meant to turn a successful black person into a parable of grievance: "once the world made sense for white dudebros like you and me, white airplane captains would pat the stewardess in a friendly manner on the butt before they flew off to Tahiti to sip their Mai Tai's on the beach, but now, because of those horrible, horrible civil rights laws, you will be lucky if you don't have to flip burgers at the local burger shack until you are 73"

After the fatal shooting of Turning Point USA founder and CEO Charlie Kirk, a conservative commentator and ally to U.S. President Donald Trump, a rumor spread that he had once said Black women like television presenter Joy Reid; former first lady Michelle Obama; former Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, a Democrat from Texas; and Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson did "not have the brain processing power to be taken seriously."

It's worth noting that Kirk had no hope of matching the academic records of people like Michelle Obama or Ketanji Brown. Not that intellectual superiority is everything; Kirk had a talent for rhetoric and persuasion that made him wealthy. But his bitter envy of his intellectual superiors who were also black is another window into his character.

The people who hate America hate Trump.
That's a nonsensical statement. I love America, for all its faults. Trump? He despicable. If anyone hated America then they'd consider Trump a bonus. Putin springs to mind.

I think you got right to the core of the fear we see among formerly-privileged demographics.
