  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No… No trans whatever whatever as they reported?
That was a misinterpretation by the right from a TRN stamp on the end of the bullet by the manufacturer.

The shooter wasn't trans; he was a Mormon from a right-wing MAGA family.

What is it about MAGA that brings about such violence?

MAGA did not bring this assassination upon Charlie Kirk.

Unconfirmed speculation. There was a leak that Steven Crowder took credit from that early reports showed some "trans ideology" was found stamped on the casings. See here. Now that the engravings have been released I don't see where that leak report could have gotten that. I don't think it's been reported which shell casings were used but there are some that have TRN on them which is just the manufacturer. So, plausible but needs more evidence.

I looked at my husband and said “they’re meeting in the pagan heaven of Norse warriors? Wasn’t he Christian? And not a warrior? Why would he be in Valhalla? Or is this a Marvel reference…? Was he a Marvel fan? Or is this an alpha male thing?”

I think he genuinely thought that would be his “that’s one small step for man” quote.

...within a stones throw of BYU no less.

From what I understand, the leak that Crowder's crew received was from law enforcement memos.

More current reports are suggesting that one casing had "Hey Fascist, catch!" on it,

One had
“O Bella ciao, Bella ciao, Bella ciao, ciao, ciao” is the opening line of the Italian folk song “Bella Ciao.”
The song was an Italian resistance movement anthem during World War II, particularly among anti-fascists.

and the others had slogans from "furry" culture on them. One said "notices bulge, OwO, what's this?" (and from what I'm reading, the OwO is something that designates "feminine cuteness" in online anime communities?

I can't say I'm an aficionado of anime and "furries"...

I'm guessing perhaps it's that last one that perhaps made some law enforcement officials initially think was some sort of trans advocacy at play. If they looked it up on line and saw that "OwO" indicates feminine cuteness, with a "bulge" referenced, it's easy to how someone could reach that conclusion.

Here’s What Charlie Kirk’s Alleged Shooter Wrote on His Bullet Casings
Contrary to prior reporting, none of the text suggested that Robinson was transgender or supported transgender people. But that didn’t stop the transgender community from catching heat: A bulletin circulated among law enforcement officials Thursday suggested that symbols on Robinson’s weapons expressed “transgender and anti-fascist ideology.” That detail was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

The Journal eventually retracted the premature release, though its correction wasn’t enough to stop MAGA-heads and other far-right personalities from dogpiling on the transgender community in their vengeful grief over Kirk’s murder. In the wake of that reporting, conservatives referred to trans people as a “species” that deserves “no mercy,” calling for them to be “rounded up” and “deported.”

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/maga-already-blaming-trans-people-214925315.html

“If the person who killed Charlie Kirk was a transgender, there can be no mercy for that species any longer,” wrote far-right podcast bro Joey Mannarino, who has more than 631,000 followers on X. “We’ve already tolerated far too much [from] those creatures.”

In another post, Mannarino claimed that “transgender terrorism is a true problem in America and until we properly address it we cannot have a peaceful nation. The Second Amendment applies to people, not science experiments,” he added.

In yet another post Thursday, Mannarino said that “two weeks ago, I called for transgenders to be rounded up, detained and studied due to their propensity for mass murder.”

I wonder if we'll be rounding up Mormons instead?

Most likely...which is why the referenced memos should not be released until verified.

I can see that line I guess. Boy is it thin though. I don't see how that would indicate "advocating trans ideology" though. A better description would be "possibly trans culture related" but I understand it's a short prelim report so accuracy is less critical. Either way, I feel reasonably confident saying trans issues are probably not related to this whole incident.

TRN is a head stamp for a Turkish ammo company Turan Ammo.

I’m familiar with them. I’m surprised the police haven’t… And if that’s the ammo that was used, there are other aspects about the shooting that very genuinely surprise me that didn’t before.

I think a lot of the professionals knew, but the masses just went running with whatever.

The fact that it's a furry slogan doesn't necessarily preclude the initial assumption from being correct, it's still quite possible the person was a trans-advocate and that was part of their reasoning (especially if they're into the whole "furry" thing given the high overlap)

"Furries" are far more likely to identify as transgender, nonbinary, or genderfluid than the general population. Three studies conducted between 2021 and 2022 found that when given six gender options, 18.5̥ percent of furries in their samples chose "genderqueer", and 7.9 percent chose "other"

The only one there's a definitive line to is the Antifa stuff as of right now...

But if this dude was into the whole "furry" subculture, there's still a chance that trans-advocacy was still at least some part of the equation.

It's certainly more likely than him shooting Charlie over his positions on income tax and fossil fuels.

I don't think there are any official sources for it - it's just a theory that's been floating around, in part because people have been struggling to come up with "trans ideology" that could be inscribed on a casing. Couple problems with it though:

1. It assumes that the cops aren't familiar with headstamps (which seems unlikely)

2. The gun was reported as a 30-06. Turan doesn't make 30-06 ammo (though they do make .308, so it's possible that the gun caliber was misreported)

"notices bulge OWO" is a meme that has extended beyond furry subculture. It's kind of an expression of comedic/trolling interest - kinda like the "rubbing hands" meme:
