Unlike you i do not need to find excuses because the Word of God does not line up with science. Why not just say, i believe science over The Bible's given creation account. Do you think you are pulling one over on God.
As for me i will believe the given creation account as recorded in The Bible and will not make attempts to make the two agree. Simply because they do not.
I believe the two do actually agree but science goes into more detail. I think the Bible gives us a brief description but science explains the mechanism of the action.
I completely reject the idea that science and God work to opposing purposes. On the contrary, science describes what God has created in great detail. Bare with me for a moment........
"Let there be light" would be a simple way of describing the big bang. both accounts agree there was nothing before light was created. Science goes further to include that is the moment when matter came into being and the materials were created that would make up the sun, moon, and stars.
"And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament:" In science, the conclusion is that this is the stage when the atmosphere was formed and water was the result of the rain in the atmosphere/ Atmosphere divided the waters on Earth from outer space where there is nothing.
"And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so." Science says that is the stage where our Waterworld receded and the land became visible.
"And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night:" This is the exact same thing as the moon reflecting the sun's light upon the Earth. Does it specify how the light of the moon shines light upon Earth? No a light is a light whether it is produced or reflected, t's still light.
"And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven." In a nutshell, this is the beginning of evolution. The amoeba was created and evolved into sea life which over the generations tried to survive on land. They succeded. Yiu see it's saying the same thing in the same order, just without the details.
"And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so." The next stage of evolution being described
"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion." The final stage of evolution (so far). Humans came up and with their (our) ability to make tools, spears, bow & arrows, and knowledge of poisonous vegetation plus the tools and knowledge to extract venom from venomous creatures, we were able to establish our dominance over all of the other animals. We became efficient, innovative killing machines.
"And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat." This shows our own evolution as we began to discern which animals to eat and which seeds would produce the best yield in grain and fruit.
"Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made." Were were given threigns in the stewardship of planet Earth (so we shouldn't trash God's creation but nurture it).
Even when Adam gets kicked out of the garden, it shows another stage of evelotion going from scavangers, to hunter/gatherers, to farmers with grain fields, fruit and farm animals husbandry.
You don't have to take leave of your senses to have faith and you don't need to throw away your faith in order to use the eyes, ears, and intellect grated us by God.
This "us" and "them" notion that is promoted is bogus. There are many many Christian scientists all over the world.
Science is here to tell us the how when thengs happen that we can't explain without observation and experimentation. The Bible is here to tell us why and how to apply science for the benefit of mankind. The only how that can be relied upon is "how" do we have a closer relationship with God and science can even tell us how faith and spirituality work for the betterment of man and mankind.
