The sad part is that the trend will probably now accelerate with the advent of AI. The world is changing at a fast pace and I don’t think we have the leadership in either party to make the right decisions to keep up with these changes.
Nothing will be done about automation and AI replacing jobs until there starts to be a serious effect on management level positions.

You don't get it RD--blue collar workers are basically just parasites on the economy. :D
And us construction trash need to shut up and build it like the model shows, especially when it’s physically impossible to do so.

No, that’s when management who are not owners finds out they’re just as disposable as the rest of us to their shock, horror and indignant incredulity.

I design buildings for a living. You should be able access 4th or 5th spatial dimensions when needed to route this around that or get a tool into a tight spot.

Too many run ins with the old ones with nothing but a wrench to fend them off have put me off that option.

Show them your caulk gun.
Not a tool of my trade very often but I’ll keep that in mind.

Now if I could get engineers to take into account the dimensions of the average size construction hand who has to crawl into these industrial abomination we bolt and weld together my lifes work is complete.

Ah. its like that discussion of cars earlier. You open the hood of a new one and every inch is occupied by this and that, whereas in older ones you could stuff a small person on either side of the engine.

There’s a cavity on each side of a GE combustion turbine that some designer had the brilliant idea of putting a tubing connection in the bottom of. My practice is to measure the width of the shoulders on the smaller guys with the narrowest drawing the short straw by default and being slid into it with apologies.

Now I see why you dont have too much application for the caulk gun.

Ha. I visited someone in prison once and when I was leaving they had to search my car before I could drive off. The guy asked me to open the hood, and I was like "Seriously? Has anyone ever escaped that way?" He said "yep".

I cut my auto work and driving teeth on my parents' 1980 Chevy Suburban. Since my dad was an incorrigible cheapskate, it only had a straight six engine and no air conditioning. You could raise two small families on either side of that engine under that big hood.

It also had a three speed GM manual transmission. To merge onto the highway, you had to wind it up to about 50 mph in second and then drop it into third. That thing was just screaming on the exit ramp with a seventeen year old kid screaming almost as loud as the engine before dropping it into third.

"We used to be a real country" :D

My dad's was the same, but a '78 Ford Fairmont- straight 6, 3-speed manual, no AC. I used to do oil changes from the top. You could reach the drain plug from above through the giant chasm and the same with the oil filter. (The transmission was way better than the one you described though, and far superior to the 4-speed on my mom's 86 Escort, that was junk.)

Yep! I had a 79 Fairmont (auto trans, with my first A/C and my first cruise control). Gobs of room on both sides of that straight 6. Yes, you could do oil changes completely from the top. I was also able to adjust the transmission bands myself.

And I once changed the starter in the parts store parking lot.

There it is, proof we're going backwards, since many of the most advanced cars today have 1-speed transmissions.

Capitalism is not a form of governance. Socialism and Communism are. So no one has died under a capitalist government. But multi millions have under socialist and communist governments.
Capitalism is an economic system - as are communism and socialism. Its fair to ask how many have died as a result of that system, if we're comparing.
