That is pretty much what I think too. However, I believe we have body, soul, and spirit. It is a functional definition, but the problem comes when a person is unconscious or psychologically ill. Does the soul go into hibernation? I haven’t figured that out yet.

So the conscious mind is separate fro the subconscious/ unconscious mind? If dreams are the subconscious working out conflicts in the conscious mind, it wouldn't seem to work. That would mean that the conscious mind is something else. I'm not getting into theology here.

It does not go unnoticed that despite Christians preaching about souls going to heaven, they all insist on a belief in the "resurrection of the body."
It's almost as if, deep down, the really believed that the "soul" was an emergent property of the brain.

I've got to say I never quite understood those bits. Our "souls" were going to heaven/hell, then what was the problem with body disposal, or did we have to wait until the end of the world to feel fine. Why did the Church prohibit cremation? What breaks sacred burial grounds if a non-Catholic is buried there?

It's almost as if, deep down, the really believed that the "soul" was an emergent property of the brain.

Even more so, most Christians react to death as if death is final and there is no afterlife.

These engines were not "designed", but discovered by evolutionary processes, copying biological evolution.
