Did the early church worship on Sabbath?

That's fine, I'm not locked into a particular day before the last supper, etc

The sun sets in New York City marking the beginning of the seventh day, and then about 3 hours later in Los Angeles. As the sunset moves across the Pacific, it sets in Manila about 8 hours after that, still marking the beginning of the seventh day

But the people there celebrated the seventh day 24 hours earlier

Is that an issue, or is it no big deal as long as you pick a sunset?

If you're talking about vegetarianism, it's important to many seventh day observers because of the writings of Ellen White. Maybe I should clarify that as Christian seventh Day observers
You should be "locked in" because it is Scripture. Sunset is sunset where ever you are at the time. No issue. I do not follow Ellen White. Jews followed the Sabbath for 1000s of years. The Rabbis did not give the Shabbat, YHVH did...

There is a thing known as the international date line. Perhaps you haven't heard of it.
Let us consider the situation of Christian Seventh-Day observers, those who believe it is critical for the seventh day to be the primary day of rest and worship, and not the first day.

When Alaska was part of Russia, many Orthodox churches were established there. It was on the western side of the International date line, the same side as Russia. When the USA bought Alaska, it switched to the Eastern side.

The date line moves based on the decisions of governments. This is probably no problem for Eastern Orthodox Christians, since they have a structure of bishops who decide things like this.

But for other Christian seventh day observers, scripture only is to be used. Governments or bishops changing the days is regarded with great suspicion.

Passages such as Matthew 15 are often cited
And they worship me in vain,
teaching as doctrine rules made by men

Or Mark 7
Full well do you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition

The peace of Christ be always with you, my man ☦

How many 7th Day Adventists lived in Alaska at the time?

Probably few or none, since the movement was just starting out

My post which brought out this topic was addressed to someone who is SDA or similar (my impression) cf #444

The idea that the Russian or US government had the authority to establish or change the day of the week is not acceptable to most people who want to observe the seventh day according to scripture only (again, my impression)

Peace be with you, my man

Is sunset the beginning of the seventh day no matter where you are?

Every sunset is the beginning of the seventh day?
Sunset Friday evening Shabbat begins...where ever you are...

According to the scriptures, is sunset Friday in the USA before or after sunset Friday in Manila?

Praise him, sun and moon!
Praise him, all you shining stars!

4

Praise him, you heavens of heavens,
you waters that are above the heavens.

5

Let them praise the Lord’s name,
for he commanded, and they were created.

6

He has also established them forever and ever.
He has made a decree which will not pass away

Psalm 148

Psalm 148
#1 you bible quote has no bearing on the subject. #2 when the sun sets Friday evening in Manila it is Shabbat...when the sun sets in the US it is Shabbat...why would it matter which is before or after?

That's true, though it does mention the Sun

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to the Lord - Colossians

#2 when the sun sets Friday evening in Manila it is Shabbat...when the sun sets in the US it is Shabbat...why would it matter which is before or after?
Because the reason it is Friday in Manila before it is Friday in the USA is because of the International date line. But that's a human contrivance

Most Christian seventh day observers want to use scripture only, not human ideas, traditions, or government decisions

Daniel 7:25 is often cited "He will plan to change the times and the law"

Closing with a psalm
The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone
This is the Lord’s doing.
It is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day that the less has made.
We will rejoice and be glad in it!

So what...why did you post it then? So what if the sun sets first in Manila, that is when Shabbat starts there. When the sun sets in the US, Shabbat starts there.

Because there are two different possible sunsets in the US :)

Which New York sunset marks the beginning of the seventh day?

Because Friday in New York, or more properly, the seventh day, could be either before or after the one in Manila :)

Maybe this will help explain

Shabbat starts at sunset of the seventh day wherever I am. But for someone east of me, Shabbat will start earlier, Yes? And for someone east of them, it will start even earlier, Yes?

Peace be with you, my man

@Yeshua HaDerekh

I'm not sure if you're pondering or AFK

But if you're pondering, you may wish to consider this

Shabbat begins in Los Angeles. Then, as you indicated, you go east and it began earlier in New York. Continue East to London, even earlier. Jerusalem, Mumbai, Rangoon, earlier still. Tokyo, Honolulu, Los Angeles, still earlier.

Now we're celebrating Shabbat in Los Angeles 24 hours earlier than we were. What happened?

For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven - the words of the preacher
