Because they went to great lengths to replace religion with secular atheism. They couldn't simply just tell everyone that religion was dead, they had to give them something in return.
I agree. When I was there when I was younger during Communism, I said that God created everything. Some of the other kids said I was wrong. They said Lenin created everything. They were taught these things in school.

Did you grow up Orthodox or did you convert?

What? That is so odd.

Aren't most of the Russian citizens faithful Orthodox? I think communism would rather be an embarrassement, and they wanted to bury their past- literally and figuratively.

Thanks for the info!

As far as I know Russia be 71 percent Orthodox. With a mix of other Christian minorities and some Islam as well. Not sure why his legacy remains simply because he hated the Russian people. All that continuing chemical process must be quite an art by the embalmers after all this time considering the embalming process never went too well on Mao. Many claim that Lenin was syphilis ridden at the time of his death. There may much truth to the claims.

Not to be morbid, but embalming doesn’t last forever, the chemicals eventually wear out and the body decomposes over time. (With the exception of Saintly miracles)

That’s why he has to be maintained so often, if I understand correctly.

That’s correct. Like I said, I’ve seen way more of Mr. Ulyanov than any normal person would want to in the course where we were shown images of the technical “process”, which is done using completely different chemicals and techniques than standard embalming. These techniques were shared with a few other Communist countries, but not China, due to the Sino-Soviet Split.

the cult of the dictator. you can see it today in N Korea.

Enver Hoxha also implemented a version of it in Europe but he lacked a clear succession plan. But there can be no doubt that in North Korea the state religion is the worship of the dynastic dictatorship, which is more exfreme and infense than most historic examples of Emperor-worship. The most historically accurate title for Kim Jong Un would be Pharoah, but most Egyptian pharoahs were not that incompetent.

An interesting statement in light of our discussion. The Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia - Official Website

I do take interest in this part:

An example of the character of this new activity was revealed when, in the mass media, a well- known professor — respected by many in Russia — recently stated that it was Tsar Nicholas II who in fact destroyed and ruined Russia, who even led it into war.10 Such may be this individual’s personal opinion, wholly echoing the Bolshevik propaganda of the early twentieth century; but to those who know how the Ekaterinburg murder unfolded, this man’s words about the Tsar, “I would have shot him myself,” sound ominous indeed.
Tsar Nicholas II was a bad ruler who led the nation into war (not by himself, of course, there were plenty of other bad rulers in other countries, coincidentally mostly closely related, who contributed to Europe stumbling into catastrophe), but, yes, I do agree it's bad to say that you would've shot him yourself. Perhaps they should've merely led with that part, because some people reading might think they're discouraging the pretty reasonable opinion that he was a poor ruler who led the nation into war.

Agreed. The pogroms that occurred during his reign attest to his poor rule. I don't think he was a bad person, but he was a very ineffectual ruler, no doubt, and a lot of awful things happened that he could have done something about.

Your point is? Communism was better? Stalin?
