  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The teen was processed through juvenile court, with the Weavers expecting a full trial until Padden was elected to office and replaced the former district attorney.
“The DA’s office said this would be a ‘no plea deal’ case, so they were not going to offer anything, any concession,” John Weaver said.
“Why the change? If he had taken a firearm and recklessly just shot it and killed someone, this would be a different case. They would be pushing it completely differently,” he added. “There’s no deterrence.”

I believe illegals often get special treatment by Democrats. I hope this illegal is now on Homan's radar.

Once again, the facts of the case are not made clear in this article. While this being a tragic situation involving a juvenile with no license engaging in a reckless joy ride, what is mostly highlighted is his citizenship status. If one follows how the accident was able to occur, one would understand why the sentence was light. The law guided this decision not Democrats.

Well, he drove twice the speed limit - without even having a licence. How is that reason for a light sentence? Over here in Central Europe, juveniles face up to 10 years in prison for negligent homicide alone. When you add the speeding and the lack of a driver's licence to that...

If probation is the standard punishment for such behaviour in the US, that is disturbing.

And adults don't drive twice the speed limit? Let us be reasonable here. This is purely a politically driven article and sensationalized by the New York Post. Other news outlets have more accurate information. For as bad as this is all the way around, the circumstances around the event ( facts) led the decision. One just needs to dig a little deeper for the truth, as I have done.
Thanks for engaging!

In the real world, people who commit vehicular homicide dont get 2 years probation. I hope ICE comes knocking down his door and takes him and his family back to where they came from.

Juveniles are often handled with kid gloves here in the US. Calls for leniency and understanding due to their age and lack of maturity are primary here. We dont treat our kids like adults in most cases.

Not saying its always right, but just saying what is.

Totally agree. If his parents are illegals they probably dont have driver licenses either.

In our area we have officers stop people committing traffic offenses and if the person can't speak English, the odds are they dont have a driver's license either. There's a good chance they have no insurance on their car too.

Still, two years probation is even soft for a juvenile. He should at a minimum spend time in a juvenile detention center before getting sent to an ICE detention center.

I know of a case in Tennessee where a 16 year old, white, USA citizen, shot and killed a nurse driving along the highway. He aged out of juvenile jail at age 19. He soon then committed armed robbery. So, should I generalize that GOP states give too light of sentences based on one case?

No, it's a 16 year old girl (minor traffic violations dismissed).

Whether right or wrong, this happened much as you predicted. She'll be deported probably - hopefully, after due process.

That girl was driving without a license, violating the law and putting motorists and pedestrians in danger. She also had passed up the opportunity to self-deport and apply for U.S. citizenship.

Evidence?

Ximena Arias Cristobal, who is in the country without authorization, was taken into ICE custody earlier this month after a May 5 traffic stop in Dalton, where she lives with her family. Local police cited her for making an improper turn and driving without a license before booking her into the Whitfield County Jail in Dalton, where she was picked up by ICE officers.

But the Dalton Police Department and the city's prosecutor announced on Monday they had reviewed dashboard camera footage of the traffic stop and determined that the officer had stopped the wrong vehicle. Officials said the vehicle that made the improper turn was similar to the truck Arias Cristobal was driving.

Charges were dismissed because the police arrested the wrong person who drove a similar truck to the one that actually committed the traffic offense.

Blame this tragedy on the parents for smuggling her into the country illegally, and blame the governments that ignored her illegal status. On the bright side, she has already benefited from the United states and will have much better opportunities in her country of origin than her peers. So I say, deport her and her family and give her the opportunity to return legally.

Yep, that gracious opportunity came and went. Let her be an example to the rest that we are not playing around anymore.

Driving without a license is a crime and it puts others at risk.
