Surely you don't think the Democratic Party is Centrist.
Most of it. Mainstream Democrats are neoliberals, just like centrist Republicans. The culture war issues aside, of course.

I recall watching "Firing Line" on PBS hosted by W. F. Buckley in the 60's through the 80's. In April and May 1981, the host debated "Television and Government Part I and Part II". Even then, almost 50 years ago, and even though PBS broadcasted his program, Buckley argued effectively that the government ought not fund television.
and many Goldwater conservatives wanted to end Social Security, and opposed Medicare. Is your point that Trump opposes programs that others have opposed in the past?

Trump's only ideology is conning the American public.
???
Surely, lining his own pockets, that of his friends, and securing more personal power is more important to him than conning the public.

You still haven't linked to where your surplus figure comes from (and a link to Trump saying it won't count).

Half of my viewing is PBS, about 3 or 4 hours a week. Mostly educational such as travel, cooking, and arts. I used to watch a lot of the nature programs but I have moved away from those lately. Rick Steves is a local favorite of course being from Seattle. Will also watch any new Ken Burns specials as they come out.
Over half of Americans subscribe to Netflix and to Amazon Prime without the federal government being involved. It is not clear why the federal government should be funding television and radio networks.

There are many places where the federal government should be spending MORE money,

PBS and NPR have good quality programming. Even alot of Republicans in Congress like that stuff, which is why Trump had to issue an unconstitutional executive order, because they are so popular.

I have not found that to be the case. I have found very few places where I can find travel shows of the likes of Rick Steves or Rudy Maxa other then PBS. Likewise with Nature, Nick on Rocks, Finding your Roots and other such educational programs.

I am asking why you are against tax payers paying for it. What is your objection to it other then your claim there is no need?

???
Pick your favorite TV show. I love x. Therefore, the federal government should pay for it? Nonsense.

Same exact response, I don't care if 10 voting Canadians lived in the country, the Canadian trading surplus with the US is being stopped, repeat it 99 more times
ROFL
If the trade surplus with Canada were to stop, there would be very large increases in the price of electricity in the US.

With regard to other products and services, the US exports far more to Canada than Canada exports to the US.

And, yes, the US trade surplus with Canada for non-energy goods will continue to go down as Canada buys fewer and fewer US goods.
======
This is so strange. Trump will end up excluding Canadian auto parts and energy. As for the rest, the huge Canadian market for the US will become smaller and smaller. Yes, our trade SUPPLUS (excluding energy) will go down and greatly harm US businesses that rely on exporting to Canada.

I expect that you are now anti-Trump since he has reduced tariffs on China to the 20% "fentanyl" tariff and the 10% that is on every country. There is no action on all the rest of China's many abuses.

What Trump and his pals don't realize is that a trade deficit with any one country is not a problem, it's the overall trade balance that is of concern. If we buy a lot of aluminum from Canada and run up a trade deficit, we don't have to sell anything to Canada to make it up. All we have to do is sell, say, aluminum products to some other country for a trade surplus and we're good.

If the cuts go through maybe it would be a good idea to rescue CPB by making it subscription as well, along with the local broadcasters. Trump can stop funding CPB but he can't legally disband it. Hey, rjs! At $1.50 per year, we'll be glad to pony up your sh

If you're in the country and poor, antenna TV is the only way. I live close to a major city so I can get PBS on antenna or cable.

Congress granted CPB's corporate charter and presumably can withdraw or modify it whenever they want. But the President has no authority over it because it is not part of the Executive Branch.
OK, this is another of Trump's illegal actions that will be struck down by the courts.

However, he has diverted us and we are discussing this minor issue while the congress cuts billions and billions form Medicaid.

Its more like Trump and the US are looking at buying 0% of Alumnium from Canada and producing this in the US and selling to other countries keeping the full profit

Why, if Canada can produce aluminum more cheaply than we can, why not buy it from them and use it to create jobs by making aluminum products?

Trade deficits are just an excuse for the Trump economic wars. They are the policy of Navarro, the non-expert.

Obviously trade deficits are not a real issue. We import lots and lots of clothes from Bangladesh and Vietnam. It takes a special kind of ignorance to believe that not purchasing more dollars from the US represents a national security issue for the US. MAGA folks really think that the nationa security issue is SOOO bad that the 40% tariffs on them are justified if they refuse to sign a deal.

=========================
1) Trump wants a 10% tariff on imports, greatly increasing tariffs as a source of revenue.
2) Trump want to show how powerful he is by getting deals. Most will amount to nothing, but the 10% will stay. Of course, Musk and Trump;s rich friends oppose this nonsense and prefer lower tariffs not higher ones (Musk wants no tariffs with the EU).
3) The chaos the trump causes by increasing and then delaying will cause fewer companies to build factories in the US. BTW, do the MAGA folks really want to work on assembly lines to produce sweaters? BTW, the biggest losers will be in the rust belt. Any factories will be built in TX, in AK and in Oklahoma. Perhaps some factories will even be built in Kansas and Nebraska.

Yes, the aluminum and steel tariffs REDUCE the number of American jobs by increase the cost of steel and aluminum needed to porduce manufactured goods.

They have continued pushing false narratives, especially about the Trump Administration. Just this week, NPR, citing two anonymous sources, reported that two DOGE workers gained accounts on classified networks, used by the National Security Administration and the Department of Energy, and accessed nuclear secrets.
“This reporting is false. No DOGE personnel have accessed these NNSA systems. The two DOGE individuals in question worked within the agency for several days and departed DOE in February,” a Department of Energy spokesperson told NPR.

There is no reason for the U.S. taxpayer to fund such biased "news" networks.
Why?
