In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Trump accepts 400 million dollar bribe.

I completely understand your concern. However, it is not a bribe unless it is accepted in exchange for a favor.
That's quite a naive position. A bribe is an inducement to the person receiving it to treat the person offering it in a beneficial manner. What that might be doesn't need to be expressly specified at that time. But it obviously taints any future dealings. And that is the problem here. You must not just act honestly. You just be seen to act honestly.

Yeah, this is Trump we are talking about, where those terms don't seem to apply. But apply they must.

While Biden is the type to be easily pushed around, I doubt this president would think twice about feeling any sort of "obligation" after receiving a gift.
LOL

Trump would fire his own mother if she stepped out of line on his dime, and without a second thought.
D Trump was found guilty in court of 34 counts of federal crimes.
He was found liable of sexual assault.
He was found to have accepted money from his father without paying the required taxes, although due to statue of limitations, got off scott free.
His Trump university was found to be a scam.
His lawyer went to prison for Campaign finance crimes while himself as co-conspirator 1 got off because he was president.

But you say he is such an upstanding citizen, almost a saint. OK!
But the point remains, when Trump is done with this plane, it will belong to the United States of America. Unlike a party or a prostitute as you compared it to.
It is a gift for his personal use (maybe). Do you know how much it would cost to use a plane for 3 years?
Anyway, I'm not too sure on the details, hopefully it isn't a personal gift to him.
The French after all, gifted USA a statue of a lady about liberty, although I hear that that want her back as USA no longer values the words written on her.

Funny how the bar in US politics for bribes is so much worse than in private business.
Typically in most countries there are large rules about government employees accepting gifts.

Rules on Gifts in the Federal Government

Government ethical rules restrict giving and accepting gifts among employees and from outside interests. Policies on exchanges of gifts among employees—as well as on acceptance of gifts or hospitality from other sources—are set by government-wide rules found in the Code of Federal Regulations at 5 CFR 2635 201–205 and 301–304. Employees with questions regarding whether the giving or acceptance of a gift, gratuity or anything else of value should contact their supervisors and designated agency ethics officials.

However, in USA the president is immune from the law. So he can accept gifts and the law be _amed
Also it seems the Supreme Court justices are exempt from gift laws too, just ask Clarence Thomas.

Most other USA presidents and other SCOTUS out of dignity, ethics and self respect do not accept gifts of value.

Please what.

Trump changes his tune and treatment of others without a second thought (and maybe even without a first thought) when they give him nice compliments.

Also, once again. It's not the change of behaviour AFTER taking a bribe that is ethically wrong, it's taking the bribe in the first place.
But the point remains, when Trump is done with this plane, it will belong to the United States of America. Unlike a party or a prostitute as you compared it to.
If I stole your car and drove it for three years and then gave it back to you, is it no longer theft because it belongs to you again?

Qatar gave 1.3 billion to Hamas

The 400M to Trump is the huge problem?

Call me crazy, but putting the president of the United States into an airplane given to him by the same government that gave Hamas over $1 billion seems like a spectacularly bad idea.

But hey- I'm sure Trump knows best ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And then there is still the Emoluments Clause:
Article I, Section 9, Clause 8:

No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

So the new air force one will belong to not to the office of president but to Donald Trump. A bribe pure and simple.
Is this administration going to continously ignore the constitution? Jezz...

* The Emoluments Clause (Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 of the U.S. Constitution): This clause explicitly states that a person holding office under the U.S. cannot accept any gift from a foreign state without the consent of Congress.

* The Foreign Gifts and Decorations Act (FGDA) of 1966 (as amended): This act provides the specific procedures for accepting and handling gifts from foreign governments and officials, including the "minimal value" provision and the process for gifts exceeding that value becoming property of the U.S.

Let’s not be naive children here. No one gives a $400 million gift without expecting something in return. We have proof of a very expensive gift to a very easily corruptible man. That’s more than enough cause for concern.

I'm not sure why the Guardian reported it differently. Either my radio station is wrong, or the Guardian is wrong. I'm not sure which.

I agree it is suspicious.

BTW, the Guardian news report is being contradicted by my radio station and I have no idea which report is correct. The radio station is saying the plane was gifted to the US, not Trump.

You wold think the parade would be free. The military loves putting on long sleeve uniforms and marching on asphalt in heat and humidity on a day they would normally be off.

God bless  Kim  Vlad umm Donald J. Trump.

If it were a gift to the USA then the USA should sell it and apply the proceeds to the national debt, rather than incur additional expense .to make it suitable security-wise.

Neither is entirely wrong - Trump would get to use the plane while in office, and then it would be transferred to his presidential library foundation at the end of his term. Technically, Trump wouldn't own it, but it seems likely that he'd be able to continue using it.
