U.S. agencies alarmed by China’s curbs on exports of rare earth minerals

Beijing’s curbs on rare earth exports, used to make military drones, consumer electronics, electric cars and more, have caused alarm across federal agencies.

As Trump softens his tone on the trade war, China refuses to budge

While Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have struck a more conciliatory tone this week, China continues to showcase its willingness to endure economic hardship to put pressure on the United States while Beijing waits for Washington to make clear its demands.

Faced with triple-digit tariffs, Chinese companies have returned Boeing jets, cut back on American soybeans and paused shipments of Chinese-made goods to U.S. buyers. Exports to the U.S. of key Chinese-made raw materials have also dropped.

China’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said Thursday that there were no talks taking place with the Trump administration on trade, reiterating that Beijing will not negotiate under U.S. pressure.

Ha, we got 'em right where we want 'em! With the upper hand and applying the thumb screws.

China says no tariff negotiations underway, contradicting Trump

China claimed it is not actively engaged in the negotiating process over tariffs with the U.S., contradicting President Trump, who expressed confidence he can strike a new trade deal with Beijing.
Commerce Ministry spokesperson He Yadong said Thursday that any “claims about the progress of China-U.S. trade negotiations are groundless as trying to catch the wind and have no factual basis.”
“China’s position is consistent, and we are open to consultations and dialogues, but any form of consultations and negotiations must be conducted on the basis of mutual respect and in an equal manner,” He told reporters during a press briefing.

Trump lying again and just like with the President of Mexico, is corrected. This is why Trump doesn't do read outs.

Who to trust? The Chinese Communist Party or Donald Trump?
If left to Trump's own devices, the actions of the Chinese communist party aren't out of the rear view mirror of desire.
They have already scrubbed government websites, fired the Inspector Generals, strong armed the media, and killed oversight.

Boeing should default China for not taking the beautifully finished planes that China committed to purchase. This is just a small example of what China has done to the USA, for years… And, by the way, Fentanyl continues to pour into our Country from China, through Mexico and Canada, killing hundreds of thousands of our people, and it better stop, NOW!

China I'm sure would be happy to take the planes. Once Trump provides an exemption them as he has done with Apple and a number of other companies that show up and kiss the ring.

What exception do you have in mind?

In the real life, Trump is blinking like crazy after a week or so of trade war. The strong words on his profile are rather for his fans, I guess.

He even became nicer to J. Powell after the crash.

So if he works out an agreement with China that is beneficial to both sides that means he caved?

We all understood that this was a negotiation and tariffs were just bargaining chips.
Those of us who know how Trump works anyway.
It remains to be seen how this will work out

When China won't even talk to the US, it is hard to see how it will work out beneficial to both sides, much less how it will accomplish any of Trump's alleged goals.

CEOs warn Trump of "empty shelves"....

  • The CEOs of three of the nation's biggest retailers — Walmart, Target and Home Depot — privately warned him that his tariff and trade policy could disrupt supply chains, raise prices and empty shelves, according to sources familiar with the meeting.
  • "The big box CEOs flat out told him [Trump] the prices aren't going up, they're steady right now, but they will go up. And this wasn't about food. But he was told that shelves will be empty," an administration official familiar with the meeting told Axios.
  • Another official briefed on the meeting said the CEOs told Trump disruptions could become noticeable in two weeks.

Fireworks retailers, wholesalers and professional pyrotechnic companies asked Chinese companies to halt production this month because they say they cannot absorb the 145% tariff that’s levied on Chinese imports.

*At least we can still fire our guns into the air.

(*please do not fire guns into the air)

Fireworks enjoy bipartisan support, and it is not feasible for them to be produced in the U.S., Schneitter-Blake, Weimer and the heads of two large commercial fireworks display companies told TribLive.

“The manufacturing capacity just isn’t here,” Pyrotechnico President Rocco Vitale said.

Those in the industry also are united against the tariffs, although they’re quick to mention they support the sentiment behind them.

“We are about America first,” Schneitter-Blake said in a statement.

Industry leaders have sent letters to the Trump administration, and they recently met with a White House liaison, Schneitter-Blake said.

The 130-year-old Schneitter Fireworks she owns is a fourth-generation family-owned business based in St. Joseph, Mo.

The tariffs are going to hurt a lot of American small business owners, she said.

“It certainly doesn’t look good,” Hartman said.

In an interview with Time magazine, Trump claims he has made "200 deals."

Your trade adviser, Peter Navarro, says 90 deals in 90 days is possible. We're now 13 days into the point from when you lifted the reciprocal, the discounted reciprocal tariffs. There's zero deals so far. Why is that?

[Trump] No, there’s many deals.

When are they going to be announced?

[Trump] You have to understand, I'm dealing with all the companies, very friendly countries. We're meeting with China. We're doing fine with everybody. But ultimately, I've made all the deals.

Not one has been announced yet. When are you going to announce them?

[Trump] I’ve made 200 deals.

You’ve made 200 deals?

[Trump] 100%.

Can you share with whom?

[Trump] Because the deal is a deal that I choose......

Wow.
200 deals, only 195 countries, and currently the number of US trade deals is with about 20 countries.

China cancels U.S. pork shipments after tariffs raise prices

World’s biggest importer has started welcoming more supplies from countries such as Brazil.

The cancellation of 12,000 metric tons of U.S. pork was the most since the Covid-19 pandemic roiled global supply chains. For the week, overall U.S. pork export sales fell to the lowest level since October.

Report: China halts US corn, soybean orders

The trade wars have cost the United States its position as China’s No. 1 soybean supplier. Brazil has taken that spot, and Nikkei reported that Chinese negotiators traveled to Brazil last week to hold bilateral discussions to further expand imports of Brazilian soybeans.
Soybeans are the number one export from the US to China.

Who knew such a thing could occur?

Oh right. Everybody. But especially me.

Exactly, Trump's focus on individual US-China trade tariffs seems to forget that there's a whole rest of the world out there to do business with. This is very relevant to the issue of soybeans. If China starts buying from Brazil, there is little incentive for them to ever switch back to US suppliers, even if the tariffs are eventually removed.
